Re: Glenelg V Port Grand Final

Enjoy it Bays.... a long time coming!

I remember when we broke the 26 year drought in 2002, seeing the faces of the long suffering guys who’d been around the club for years, who toughed it out in the darkest times. The absolute joy brought a tear to the eye.

I’m sure their will be some very content people at the bay tonight who like the old sturt boys maybe thought this day wouldn’t come . Enjoy it folks, you’ve earned it.

Re: North Melbourne

Up to 5 clubs chasing the services of Dougal Howard.

Brad Crouch camp reportedly asking for 5 years x as close to $1m as damn it.

Didn’t Howard just sign a contract extension recently?
I know contracts don’t mean much these days but still......

Whoops, wrong thread.

I just assumed you put it in here because:

a) If 5 clubs are into Dougall, one of them has to be the Roos.
b) If B Crouch is asking for 5 x $1m then naturally the Roos will now offer 8 x $2.4m (which again, naturally he wont accept)

Re: North Melbourne

Caro reporting North in some strife with their soft cap.

Imminent pay out to Scott, pay out to Dilena, pay out to Tudor ( assistant coach ) and list manager Michael McMahon who leaves at the end of the trade period.

So coach, CEO, assistant coach and list manager all gone in one season.

Hence the reason to take on Shaw* who was going to cost them far less than an experienced coach.

The journo's really are climbing over each other now, aren't they?

In what looms as one of the most underwhelming trade periods for some time they're doing anything they can to remain relevant.

It's been weeks of innuendo and speculation getting passed off as news. Most of it utter tripe.

Unfortunately the social media masses lap it up so it will only continue.

Ok so many positions are vacant at the moment...who are the front runners?

Coach: Nicks I reckon. Or Yze. Or Rhyce Shaw.
Head of Football: No idea...maybe Rhyce Shaw.
Culture Manager: Pods I reckon. Hearing Mark Williams name get mentioned but doubt he could bring himself to do it. Maybe Rhyce Shaw?
Senior assistant: No idea Rhyce Shaw, the best assistant anywhere ever. Twice....

Substitute the word 'maybe' with 'i think' or 'ive heard' and you've got an AFL journo worthy scoop there Boon!

think both of you are at the extremes.

Re: Port Adelaide 2019

I love any crack i can get at Port but i cant see how they have done to much wrong on this one. They tried a co-captaincy (not like other clubs havent tried this either), they have then done their annual review and for one reason or another decided it wasnt the best option moving forward and reverted back to a common model. Once again i think there would be so many things clubs try each year (training methods, gym methods, strategies etc) that dont work and they revert back after a year that go unnoticed.

Pretty well summed up.

I guess we can differentiate between who can look at things objectively with the PAFC and those who can't . ;)

yes, yes we can ;)

Re: Port Adelaide 2020

THE PORT ADELAIDE FOOTBALL CLUB has announced an increased partnership agreement with Carlton & United Breweries through Pirate Life for 2020.

CUB has been a long-term partner of Port Adelaide and has increased its agreement to become one of the club’s Premier partners.

Port Adelaide Chief Executive Officer Keith Thomas says it has been a fantastic partnership that continues to evolve.

“It is great for the club to continue its association with such a strong recognisable national brand,” Mr Thomas said.

“It has been a long-term connection with CUB - dating back to 2012 - and we are rapt to increase our level of partnership.”

CUB acquired Pirate Life in 2017, and the Pirate Life brand will become a new joint major partner of Port Adelaide’s SANFL side, as well as retaining the naming rights of the Deck at Adelaide Oval for AFL home games.

Thomas says the agreement with Pirate Life provides an exciting opportunity for both organisations.

“Port Adelaide and Pirate Life are very much aligned,” he said.

“Both organisations have a strong community focus, and to partner with another great team from Port Adelaide’s heartland is pretty special.

“We had our 150th anniversary logo launch at the Pirate Life brewery. It was a great day and the fit was just perfect.

“The special edition lager they have created - with the club’s new logo - looks and tastes great. I’m sure the Port Adelaide community is loving it.”

Mr Thomas’ sentiments were echoed by Pirate Life co-founder Jack Cameron.

“We’re super excited to continue to build on an already great relationship with Port Adelaide,” Mr Cameron said.

“Now that we call Port Adelaide home, with our new brewery and hospitality venue, we are looking forward to working with the club to do some great things for not only the footy community but for everyone in Port Adelaide.”

CUB’s regional Sales Director Dany Savage said the partnership made sense.

“We are pumped and very optimistic about our continued partnership with the Port Adelaide Football Club,” he said.

“It makes perfect sense to have Pirate Life play a significant role as a part of the increased partnership given both organisations’ links to the Port Adelaide community.

“As the club approaches its 150th anniversary, we are honoured to be partnering alongside it.”

UNCORK the champagne. Strike up the band, as they did in 1870 for Port Adelaide games. The moment has come. April 20 - the day, 150 years ago, when three men started a football club - and no ordinary football club.

John Albert Rann.

Richard William John Leicester.

And George Henry Ireland.

It was a Wednesday. They met at North Parade at Port Adelaide . They had a vision for their growing community, its people - and the new game of Australian football that was less than a decade-old in Adelaide.

I didn't know there was a CIBO's there in 1870?

Re: Southern Football League

Seems like all clubs are pushing ahead and planning to play which is a great sign.

Not accurate ! planning to train and meet again in 2 weeks and see how the landscape looks .

Why would you be training if you are not planning to play?

Some Clubs are training to leave the door open to potentially play down the track, there is a hope from most that some play might be possible but far from a plan. Some clubs very keen to proceed, others very hesitant.

Too much uncertainty at this point in time, hence the next meeting after the Gov releases the next stage after June 8.

Difference I guess is Adelaide have a waiting list to become a member/ticket holder whereas Port doesn’t so less will be inclined to opt out and go onto the waiting list

*not having a crack just a reason

Difference i guess is that Adelaide have a long list of loyal supporters who sign up every year, year on year whereas Port supports are fickle and only attracted to new and or successful things and will opt out in a second if there is a chance the teams not going well.

Re: AFL Round 6 - I'm a Victorian, GET ME OUT OF HERE!

Perhaps the simplest solution to the holding the ball issue would be that when tackled you can dispose of the ball anyway you can including throwing it to ground without penalty, and thus if you don't dispose of it then the call is holding the ball. Of course pinning the arms in a tackle would then become a pattern, but that could mean a bounce..

Not that silly, let them throw it, would keep the ball moving alot more. Then you could penalize anybody who doesnt get it out, even if arms are pinned. No grey area at all, easy to umpire.
Its ******* rugby already as it is.
Crows blokes ahead of the curve here by 20 years....

The Crows obsession is still strong with this one.
