West Indies all out for 55

The WI batting brought back memories of cricket training
Remember this drill
A person about 40-60m away would hit high balls and we would practice outfield catching
Thats what a few of the WI disMissALs looked like

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19)

I had thought the logic of opening up the borders was to create norMALity in our lives
Approaching 2 weeks since Australia's greatest left hand batsman was opened up to South Australia
Its anything but norMAL ?
The following :

Mate about to have chemo requests no visitors

Person not long to live has asked for no visitors

Pregnant girl at mates cafe , resigned, does not want to risk the babies health

Teenage girl at same cafe resigned, as her parents deemed it risky for her daughter to work there

Both cafes I visit , 1st week ok, 2nd week a 25% drop in customers[ but too early to tell if a trend]

Still wearing masks

Still doing code ins

Still have to social distance

20 of us norMALly have our baby boomer xmas dinner
Only 8 are going this year, lowest ever turn up expected

Someone who goes to senior citizen luncheons reports half went last lunch

Relative with health issues is now working from home
His wife resigned from her work, to limit the risk to him

Taxi driver last week , who is an anti vaxxer , was given 48 hours notice to get vaccinated or no job

Mate now drives to work in town, as does not want to catch a bus to work

Most importantly , it has interrupted Wedgie

Basically the 'logic' of getting on with our lives is anything but

Also I have 7 mates in business, ALL of them have done better in business since Covid pandemic

As for me
I dont know if covid/delta/omicron is under rated or over rated
I more or less agree with why we had lockdowns/shutdowns/quarantines/vaccines
But I dont know what to think of opening up the borders ???

yes I'm a grumpy old b@st@rd who knows best about all things cricket and things were soooo much better in my day but how hard is it to get into the BBL this year?

over it all ready

Swepson

Warner

In answer to your post
It would be much harder to make a BBL team if the Australia A team and the Australian Test team had players available
At least a few of the Aussie A team players are returning now

Theres a couple in the England Test team that have previously played in the BBL
Joe Root and Josh Butler

And did Covid/Delta/Omicron stop any Internationals coming over ?

Considering who is available in the BBL season it does well and its entertaining to enough people

I was critical of Trav getting in the side but he has batted real well this series and more importantly his been so unselfish.

Has definitely proved the selectors right

If The Trav can average 60 odd in the next 5 years , makes us even ;)
I once said on this site that Steve 'The Blonde' Don would not make it as a test batsman

Meanwhile my man, the Brunette Don The Labman is averaging over 60 so far :D

Re: Australian International Summer (The Ashes) 2021/22

His literally on there to appease the sport lovers who understand sport, who appreciate change but can see through the modern "entertainment" bullsh!t in lieu of what makes sport truly appealing - the sport itself. Chappell is the pin up boy.

EFA ;)

e.g. the Big bash is a good innovation but over scheduled and to the detriment and inhibitive to red ball cricket it becomes it can kill the golden goose.

Red ball cricket played in a "traditional manner" i.e. appropriate over rates, minimal breaks in play, with a intent for results and with respect to opponents,

I disagree about T20 killing test cricket. In the major countries test crickets popularity is as a good as ever. Its really on SAF, WIN and SL where test cricket is struggling.

Look at India's progression as a test playing nation since the creation of the IPL. They have come on in leaps and bounds.

I also question what test crowds would look like if it wasn't for T20 being the introduction to cricket for children. I know in my household my partner and 2 older children only have a passion for test cricket after learning and understand the game via t20.

Yeah its getting scheduled at the wrong time in Australia but realistically we are still the number 2 nation in the world (if it wasn't for over rate penalties) so our on field performance hasn't been that hampered by the introduction of t20.

Some of the best test matches in recent history eg India run chase against us and Stokes run chase against us don't happen if t20 was never formed.

WHUFC
FWIW I can respect what you have posted
You post sum interesting stuff at times , seemingly always a good read

I can add that I have followed these sports in SA
Dogs
Trots
Races
SANFL
Sheffield Shield Cricket
Test Cricket
Big Bash Cricket

The first 5 , attendances have spiraled downwards since i first attended
The marriage of Test Cricket and Big Bash Cricket means cricket still has a combined good attendance overall

Cricket is getting bums on seats- the other 5 sports are struggling
Therefore my conclusion is Administrators have mostly got it right
I reckon BB competes with Sheffield Shield more that Test cricket in SA
We still get BIG crowds in the Test matches , and now have it for the BB as well
BIG Bash has regenerated the crowds that the Sheffield Shield cannot

AMBAYS you raise some interesting points as well

BUT
I ask how have the administrators got this wrong with over scheduling of the BBL?
How can anything that attracts crowds of 5,000-20,000 consistently be over-scheduled
And to get those crowds 5+ times a season equates to a lot of $$$ takings and TV rights and and and
And they still get a BIG crowd for the test matches on each day
WIN WIN for the Administrators

I know you dont answer my posts, which is great as you cant prove me wrong

Re: Australian International Summer (The Ashes) 2021/22

time to bring in Mitch Marsh for Green? Only 31 and in the peak of his form, plays spin really well. Gives green a chance to go back and work on his game and come back even better. Cant see us going into any tests in the near future without an allrounder.
My initial thought of the 30 year old Mitch Marsh was that whilst he has improved against spin (and batting overall) he had struggled against spin in his 32 test matches so I had a look into it.

Has a career average of 25.20, against spin he averaged 21.75 being dismissed 20 times compared to pace where we was dismissed 30 times with an average of 24.80.

In Asia he has played 9 mtaches, made 405 runs at an average of 22.50 with 2 fifties.

Against India he has played 5 matches, made 165 runs at an average of 18.33. 2 of those tests were in India where he made 48 runs in 4 innings with a highest score of 31.

Against Pakistan in the UAE he has played 4 matches, made 194 runs at an average of 24.25 with a highest score of 87.

Against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka he has played 3 matches, made 163 runs at average of 27.16 and has a highest score of 53.

Looking towards Australia's Pakistan Tour (if it still goes ahead) I'm not sure dropping Green for Marsh for that series to bat at 6 would be beneficial given Marsh's previous result against spin and in spin friendly conditions and I feel as though the Australian selectors and management will give extra opportunities for Green to come good like they did when Marsh started test cricket. (This is not to say I'm interested to see how Marsh would go in test cricket now.)

Im a Mitch Marsh fan, however his great form is mostly in 20/20 cricket
As much as i LOVE 20/20 cricket, it is not a true guide for 5 day cricket

Mal how did you go when you bowled to Victor Trumper?

Victor was one of the nicest cricketers you could ever meet
He used to run a shop, when us kids used to visit , he would give us stuff for free
In all sincerity he was king of the kids
He ran a business like a charity

Clem Hill, Victor Trumper , Ernie Jones , George Giffen
They were my idols growing up

George Giffen is the reason I barrack for Norwood
In 1878 Norwood Beat South , from memory 1 goal to nil
George had blisters from his boots, and discarded them
He kicked Norwoods first goal ever barefoot !

Re: Australian International Summer (The Ashes) 2021/22

Alex Carey
Sum of youse watch more cricket then me , hence I might be wrong
So here's my 15 cents worth on Alex Carey

In most games ive seen him before this test series , he kept well and batted well
Thats probably the main reason why he was selected to play this series after Tim Paine made himself unavailable
Ive watched just about every ball of this series
His keeping has been way below his standards
His batting below his best, but he was kind of sacrificed twice that I saw
He had to open when Warner was injured, he faced THAT ball before THAT Declaration
Having said that he could have made 2 not outs in both digs though

This is why Im gunna bat for Alex
THAT ball b4 THAT declaration was a team shot
There are cricketers who would have pushed a single or played a less riskier shot
But Alex played a team shot

Lets not forget, he is a Test rookie of 4 tests
WHUFC more or less states he is an experienced player in the set up and it cant be used as a BIG excuse
DUTCHY states give him sum slack , he is still a rookies
SAFOOTY Wicket keeping expert AMBAYS seems to be each way on Alex[ look forward to his conclusions on Carey now]

That leaves me
I will compare Alex with 2 other amazing Australian left handed wicket keepers [ 3 if ambays is left handed]
Rodney Marsh
Adam gilCHRIST

Early in both careers both were criticised for a lack of keeping skills
Rodney got THAT nickname Iron Gloves- later became a star with the gloves
Adam mainly because of his batting skill kept his spot- later to greatly improve his glovework

Alex Carey has proven he is a good keeper for SA and 20/20 and ODIs
, hopefully he makes it at test level, I prefer to judge him after about 12 tests

More commercialism. Not in the women's game it's not. Red ball cricket is only played at international level.

No domestic first class system for female cricket exists in any country

NSW 7/204 [44]

Henriques on 43, Dwarshuis on 31

Moses tried to hit Short for 6 and is caught by Cartwright

In the context of the game, and the pressure of a final , you wont ever see too many better catches than that
