So are Port and Crows reserves now not going to play as they have an unfair advantage over the Victorian AFL teams?

Re: R8 South v Centrals Saturday 1410

I actually thought we were okay today. Hoskin and Presbury would have made a bit of a difference. South made a lot of skill errors in defence early which helped keep us in it.

Re: R8 South v Centrals Saturday 1410

Tough game, well fought by the Dogs but South did enough to kick away in the last quarter to the scoring end.
Lots of room to improve for the Panthers. Centrals aren’t a bad side though.
Dogs supporters - any of you attend the game? Who was the clown abusing Jason Horne every time he got near the ball? Pretty poor form abusing a kid, at one point he was just screaming “Daicos is better than you”. Absolute flog and was standing behind the northern goals.

Re: Season 2022 Player Movements

The Menzel brothers are enjoying their September action

And one of them is rumoured to again be leaving SANFL ranks at seasons' end.

Is that just a salty Centrals fan who calls pass games . I’ve been told what Centrals said about the Menzel brothers when they left/asked to leave / don’t come Monday . Or whatever actually happened seems Centrals got pissy online !
Doesn’t really matter now but I was told the exact way they came to the Eagles on less money than at Centrals
And now playing in the finals seems to have worked out well for both brothers and the Eagles

Hmmm, KOTN media.

Re: Entry to SANFL games

If the SANFL follows the SMA requiring 12 year olds to be vaccinated, that will be the end of my family of four attending games (and volunteering). Other venues are 16 plus. My wife and I are double vaxxed, but I'm not getting my 12 year old vaxxed.
Don't take your 12 y.o.
Going to the sanfl was about spending time with my kids at an event they enjoyed. I won't take my 12 year old, we'll spend the "quality time" elsewhere (and the age demographic of attendees at the sanfl will potentially continue to rise).

Re: Entry to SANFL games

Good on you, i wouldnt be subjecting any kids to especially with the high rates of myocarcditis in teenage boys. Dont listen to the others mate, the risk is way too high for kids who dont need it. Id go as far to say that are being irresponsible parents by subjecting their kids to a vaccine they dont need. They clearly havent done any research and any doctor saying kids should be vaccinated should lose their license. There is far more negatives than positives in that age group. Dont play roulette with your kids lives

Actually, don't listen to an anonymous poster on a sports forum.

Speak to your GP, seek a second opinion of you need but trust the experts, don't trust someone with no medical back ground who cannot substantiate any of his claims with supporting evidence.

My GP has said to get our kids vaccinated but my wife’s GP said only get the older one.
Who do I believe here?

Seems like the experts are as confused as the rest of us

Re: Round 2 Central v West Adelaide

Trav Schiller would have 5 MM votes banked from the opening two games; back to 2019 form.
Launer Reeves and Beuchner are settling very nicely whilst McCormack is a great pickup... 20 possessions on top of his ruckwork is very handy.
Ellem nd old reliable Keogh were very good in the first half for west, and Stevens won plenty of ball in the stoppages.

Major setback to see Marcus Barreau and Jaxon Neagle likely to miss the rest of the season, both with bad foot/ankle injuries.
Jaxon was a chance to play more league this year, whilst Marcus has worked his way into our top 5/6 players.
Disappointing particularly re Barreau, was looking good. Wow, what a turn around, just got home, watching the last quarter again. What a difference having an excellent ruckman makes. The schillers would be loving the support in the middle.

I think mot understand it's different being beaten by a side not playing under the same terms and conditions as your team. Farce. What would you think If the AFL Crows were playing against clubs allowed 67 times their salary cap, excluding facilities etc? The irony of Port complaining about Sydney's COLA advantage.

Re: Round 6 Sturt vs Dogs Wigan Oval Sunday 2:10

PS. saw Aiden Grace comments......what a wanker.

His been at the club two minutes and thinks he can tell the fans there not true supporters. Most of those blokes posting did it tough for 30 odd years before our first premiership and they haven't seen a worse side than the current one. Him telling the fans 'you're all not true supporters' is bloody rich.

And now we have Paul Thomas responding to posts as well but not really in a constructive manner. Surely his been in the game long enough to know that when results like this year happen people are going to ask questions or be critical. To be fair the comments aren't even that bad other than 'the team has gone backwards', 'is Thomas the right man', 'Thommo isn't the right man'. I wouldn't call them completely unfair comments given the circumstances.

Why's he a wanker? He's been at the club "two minutes" and is publicly supporting his coach and taking responsibility for a teams poor performance. More of a leader, club man I would think. Fans or supposed true supporters calling for his coach to be sacked are more the wankers.
Since Thommos arrived the salary cap has been halved to a measly $210,000 (for all except the AFL teams). Why wouldn't this be the worse side we've seen? Compounded by the difficulties we've had recruiting as all true supporters should be aware of. Sure, people can ask questions when we've lost by near enough to 100 points by the now top side. But, to say Thommo isn't the right man or should stand down I believe is not only too simplistic but pretty pathetic.
I think he can only work with the team he has on the day. So why do these supposed "true supporters" believe Thommo isn't the right man? Does he not have the football knowledge, experience? Is he too old or young? Has he not had good coaching mentors? Is he to long out of the game? Does he not bleed red, white and blue or appreciate the club history? Does he not know how to win or what's required for success? Is he doing it for the money or just for self promotion? Has he had plenty of opportunity in the position for long enough without success? Is he not getting the results from a good or great list of players? Has he "lost" the support of the players? These supposed true supporters should be careful what they wish for.

Re: Round 6 Sturt vs Dogs Wigan Oval Sunday 2:10

How far is it to St Kilda?

St Kilda could be Hamilton Island and players wouldn't want to come to the shambles that is our football club at the moment. Imagine a recruit jumping on a potential news clubs facebook page to see one player calling the fans 'not real' and the league coach popping in a with unconstructive comments!!
Not good enough and the board need to be notified [-X
Please, what's wrong with a bit of interaction. Such a society of apologists now. Imagine a new recruit jumping on a clubs facebook page seeing a few "supporters" having a crack at the team, doing their best and no response. Hopefully a new recruit would understand social media is a platform where some posters comments aren't necessarily a reflection on the opinions of the majority.

PS...just as an exercise on our challenges:
Can you name more than 6 metro Clubs that are feeders for us? We would have the least metro feeders BY A MILE.... and yes, we have whinged and yet nothing is done... so what is your next suggestion?

That actually makes it easier for you potentially as you’ve other league clubs responsible for servicing local clubs and schools that kids in your zone play for.

For Example Edwardstown club in Westies zone but kids west of Marion Rd who potentially play for Edwardstown are zoned to Glenelg. Vice Versa for Cove footy club zoned to Glenelg but kids in Sheidow park zoned to South.

We wish!
I can only think of 3 football clubs in the entire Playford Council that are in the Amateur League. Div 4 is the highest of any of them.
In addition Northerner, I have read through plenty of the past SANFL annual reports and their zoning reports. Central along with South Adelaide always had (by a long way), the lowest number of both schools and football participants in their zones. A significantly smaller talent pool to draw from.

"You’re all not true supporters. Nothing to do with our coach. We played we take responsibility for it, it’s not acceptable. If your not willing to support us through this you shouldn’t support us . But don’t try blame it on one person."

This is the dumbest thing anyone at a football club can say.
Why? I agree, a supporter not a barracker (or band waggoner) supports through the tough times as well as the good. Even if we have our worst team. Did you still follow the Port Magpies in 2000 to 2014 when they were mediocre and unsuccessful, before Port Power took them over?

All he was saying is don't blame the coach, the players take responsibility it's not acceptable, good on him.

Aiden Grace, was supporting the coach and taking responsibility for the performance. "Nothing to do with our coach", "we played we take responsibility for it, it's not acceptable", "But don't try to blame it on one person". Again, I say good on him. As a player he understands it's not acceptable but don't blame the coach, pretty simple. I'm assuming his comments weren't necessarily directed at your selected quotes but maybe the three individuals that wrote 1) "Paul Thomas must resign immediately. You have failed", 2) We need a complete review and new leadership starting with the coach" and 3) "Time for the coach to go." If these three are supporters, they're entitled to their opinion, despite how wrong it would seem to many, including the players. They sound like those Richmond or Melbourne supporters that wanted to get rid of Hardwick or Goodwin early on. He's about 6 games into his second season, with an average squad, I wish the answer were as simple as removing the coach at this early stage but I'm not that naïve.

Re: Round 6 Sturt vs Dogs Wigan Oval Sunday 2:10

We had Andrews who wasn't allowed his own assistants yet Thomas appears to be allowed his own bringing back assistants who were there 10 years ago. Someone needs to investigate whether we are following best hiring practises and not just giving jobs for the boys.

Say what?
Thommo brought just one assistant with him: Nick Russell, who has spent several years at Hawthorn and Power, surely a solid get.
What assistants did he recycle from 10 years ago?????
Jeff Brown is the only guy on the coaching panel who was around 10 years ago, and he certainly wasnt brought in by Thommo.
Andrews brought in his own cousin as a ruck coach. Did you know that?
Seems like you are backing the wrong horse if you want to discuss "jobs for the boys"

We are 1-6 the Club loses by nearly 100 points and what a surprise northerners here to tell us everything at the club is fantastic. And you have no idea what you are talking about if You criticise.

YAWN

How many metro clubs did cdfc have during the Sanfls greatest dynasty btw ??
Can't see and don't recall him ever stating "everything at the club is fantastic". Have noted some informative corrections to mistruths.

Re: Round 10 Centrals vs Power Reserves Sat 2:35 X-Convenien

With Port Power reserves being able to recruit a ruckman from interstate last week, their side is further strengthened. Additionally, playing tonight they'll be able to play their medi sub, they've dropped Sam Hayes and again will be too strong for us. Their AFL side has 5 injuries of a potential list of 44. All this further highlights what a pathetic (with lack of integrity) competition we now have and bother to support.

Re: Round 16 Dogs vs Power Reserves

This is annoying. Last time we played the Maggies there were 17 or 18 AFL listed players and they beat us. Then they lost a bunch of games with about 8 AFL listed players in the side, and now here we go again we are up against 16-17 apparently.

We are in better form this time around though, so hopefully we give it a crack.

And that's why this competition is a farce. Imagine if we were playing for a spot in the 5. One year, I think we made the 5 by percentage over South. We generally played pretty weak Crows and Port teams that year and South unluckily got them nearer full strength, can completely impact on the competition hence they create too much inequity.
Disappointed in our club for allowing the game to be scheduled at this time.

Disappointing to be beat so comfortably in the end.

Really not sure where the club is headed

League will win the same amount of games last year
Our ressies went to shit this year after being good in 2021
U/18 finished bottom again

Only really big positive is the improvement of the 16’s who improved greatly.

We are talking in absolute micro improvements in 2022 for us as a club.
I thought we played some really good games this year. Clearly not enough 4 quarter efforts. Keep the current squad and add a couple of quality recruits and I think we'll be okay. Of course we haven't been great in the recruitment area in recent years.

Got closer than I anticipated but as already mentioned, always disappointing to lose the close ones particularly after leading by 3 plus goals early on..
Felt we lacked a bit of leg speed.. perhaps Olsson or Carroll a consideration. Still think Habel is wasted in the ressies also who still has a bit of dash left in the old legs..

I'd probably have Habel or Carroll in for East next week. Habel experience and good ball use. Use to be a goal kicking forward for us early in his career. Team did well, unlucky in the end.

Solid team performance. For the first time in a kong time, I have no one (IMO) who I would be looking at dropping from the 21. Every player had an impact.
Once again, loving our defensive unit. Eagles were one point away from their lowest score ever.

Crowserves are still the major concern for the comp.
Fingers crossed the pricks don’t make the AFL finals.
I've said it before, if Central or South don't win it, I hope the Crows smash the "yes" clubs. Then we'll no longer hear, well "they haven't won a premiership yet", as if that's the only concern with AFL reserves.

On a side note, supposedly the West Coast reserves team has only two afl listed players available and they're getting smashed each week (they've lost 18 in a row). The inclusion of reserves teams over there has had the same impact as here, with poorer "ultimate" performance by the AFL teams. What a failed experiment.

Re: 2023 Elimination Final - Central District v Powerserves

So, basically if a port professional played against Richmond, they're ineligible. Don't know why Francis Evans is mentioned in an article on the sanfl website as he doesn't qualify under any of the rules?

Frankie Evans can't play this week but has qualified should he not be selected in the AFL side next week, if the SANFL side beat Centrals this week.
He has played 11 SANFL games and 10 AFL games, tick.
He has played 3 or more SANFL games in the 2nd half of the SANFL season, tick.
Ahh, thanks. That makes sense. I wrongly assumed as he'd played 10 AFL games, he could only have played 8 to 9 sanfl as we have 18 rounds, but of course the AFL have more rounds. Cheers

Re: 2023 Elimination Final - Central District v Powerserves

So proud of our developing team who, underpinned by a handful of veterans, are a relatively young and inexperienced group. We’ve gained so much out of the last 3 weeks, anything from here is just a bonus. Grace saved his best game for the year for the big stage (who was it that questioned his place in the team earlier in he week?) Grant was as industrious as ever, McCormack was super competitive in the ruck and contributed much more effectively when the ball hit the deck than his much more experienced opponent. Billy and Jez repelled numerous forward entries and rebounded brilliantly. Dudley again displayed footy nous beyond his years and Linke stepped up when we needed someone to run hard and present. Got out of my man flu sickbed to ensure my run of attending all Dogs major round games since 79 remained intact and am bloody glad I did! Funny isn’t it.. we got used to winning for fun in the noughties.. but today brought me just as much pride and pleasure.. and it was an elimination final FFS! That’s the beauty of following a club in the SANFL I guess…
Gunna say I was on the Grace bandwagon before it left the station.
One that surprised me hugely was Dahms... I knew he would provide the contest, but how much drive did he give, and his turnover count was right down.
Grace was superb. Even with a match winning point from 60m out where he was never scoring major.

18 contested marks? Wow, that's been our Achilles Heel for a decade.

Hard pressed to nominate someone to drop out of East is available next week.
Agree with all the above. I thought Dahms was excellent (other than the high tackle), I'd never seen him play so well. I think the only potential out for East would be Shaw.

Re: INS and OUTS for 2024

The Central District Football Club is delighted to announce our 5th new signing of the off season in North Launceston & Tassie Devils Key Forward, Oscar Harper.

For those who enjoy our SANFL history, Oscar is the grandson of former Bulldog key position player, Bruce Stevenson. Bruce played 72 games for Hawthorn in the then VFL from 1969-1974 before a stint at the West Adelaide FC 1975-1978. In 1979 Bruce became a Doggie playing 32 games & kicking 38 goals in what he describes as two wonderful fulfilling years at the kennel.

Oscar 18 is a chip off the old block being strongly built and still climbing at 194cm, he has a high work ethic as well as a strong desire to continually develop his game to a high level. Oscar finished 3rd in 2023 Rodney Eade Medal which is awarded to the best Development league player (U18) as voted on by the umpires in the TSL. Oscar went to Scotch Oakburn College in Launceston, Tasmania where he was a boarder and produced some outstanding football for his school.

Football Manager Mark Ross had the following to say about Oscar.

“Oscar is still young and will be given some time to develop his craft as a key forward. He is a very strong mark, reliable kick and most importantly, a wonderful human. Oscar’s performance for North Launceston to finish 3rd in the Rodney Eade medal is significant as he missed a handful of games due to injury & College football commitments”.

Can everyone please welcome Oscar to the Ponderosa.
