Not being able to match the near $40K transfer fee paid to South by Centrals at the time was disappointing but seen as a sign of the times.
Centrals were simply THE top dog of the league and had dominated with the football onfield and chequebook off it!
Would any club now be able to afford such a substantial outlay plus a large playing contract for one player? Maybe, but apparently fees will be more realistic now the 2 cancers are in the comp.
Even if a player comes through all the grades and becomes a top notch SANFL player, 25K should be the ceiling for transfers!
Player movement has always been a great talking point for supporters adding an extra layer to the comp.
Every club has it's share of gains and losses ( South more then anyone
) .
The rules on the 2 Gayfl clubs must be very tight to restrict them stacking all their discards from the previous season with older types like Callinan, Johncock etc. and the cream of the SANFL ala Sam Gray......... Pandora's Box?????
