I was disappointed we didn’t take Baldwin at the draft as I think he will be a good pickup but we blew our chance draft night and it’s horse shit that we can take him this close to the start of the season

Even though I am a Bombers Man, I couldn’t agree more with the timing.
It shouldn’t be allowed to happen.
There will certainly be more SANFL players picked up in the mid year draft too.

Not sure if true or not but he supposedly wasn’t playing for Glenelg this year no matter what. He had a deal with the Gold Coast where they would help him get set up at Uni of QLD and play NEAFL for them this year with an eye on a signing him up at seasons end

Yep, left us to go to the Gold Coast late last year I reckon.

So with Goldsack having a knee “issue” will Port add another to their list?

Probably they always do what they like and the SANFL wont question it

Looks like South will sign Nigel Lockyear who played for Palmerston in the NTFL last season and the NT Thunder in the NEAFL in 2019.

Lockyear is a handy 190cm and 84 kg with good speed.

Played the second half against Port and impressed with his tackling and willingness to close down space.

Did a preseason with Essendon in 2020 but was not drafted.

Played 1 or 2 pre season games for us last year but we didn’t take him unfortunately. Was some talk that we would look at him again this year perhaps mid year if he was going ok

A possible mid year AFL selection... he's going to the right place in South then, an absolute lock to be taken!

Has South become a reserves/training side for the AFL?

28 years old making his AFL debut. I wonder who holds the record?

It was (for the AFL era ie post 1990) held by Matt Eagles at 28 years 87 days.

Hunter will be second.

Both Port and Crows leave a list spot open for the mid season draft, could a SANFL player start with one club and then be playing against that club in the same season?

If Callow has a good run with us I’d think there would be some interest from the two SA clubs

I think Orren Stephenson was the oldest at 29yo to debut in the modern era for Geelong in Round 1 2012..

Yeah a heap of playes from WWT have verbal commitments with local clubs in the Mid North, including a few already training with these clubs as well as WWT.

It shouldn't really be a problem for the Eagles though. After all, they can just utilise their key sponsor, SEEK Employment Agency, to find their players 'jobs'. After all, they have done this for a number of their new recruits.
Cheers
