I dunno, Good Friday's a pretty fricking boring day.

They've had NRL for years and Union recently too, I doubt they'd be tuning into Glenelg v South, I wouldn't even bother and I live here!
I'll definitely be watching the Super 15 matches that day.

Good point. Forgot about that. Does this mean Victoria is the most devout state?

Backwards is the word that comes to my mind, and we weren't far behind them.

Could they use it as a test case to broadcast live nationally to pressure the AFL to get one??

Yeah I'm sure there would be a huge viewing audience in Sydney for South v Glenelg.
Its already been tested by other sports and is highly successful, that's not the issue.

Yeah they get MONSTER crowds at NRL!!!!!

Do people in Sydney even like NRL biggest population in Australia, a team on every corner and they lucky to get 20,000 to a game!!!!!!

In the AFL we criticise Port or North if they get 25,000 to a game and for the NRL that is considered PARTY TIME!!!!!!

So is South v Glenelg!

Marginally above Adelaide v GWS on the Sunday though, you got to admit Boon....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

NRL is all about TV ratings and consistently out rates the AFL.
Don't get me wrong, I don't enjoy the NRL and haven't for at least 15 years, I prefer English Rugby League and Rugby Union.

I think Good Friday footy is great. I think we need crowd attracting sides playing though. Imagine how big it could be. I sense a big monster about to gobble it up however.

I applaud South for the initiative though.

Crowd attracting teams, are you saying Glenelg is not the right choice for this marquee game?

Im strongly against giving it to the big drawing sides.
South was the only club with the balls to stand up to the wowsers and god botherers and play on GF, its theirs forever as far as im concerned.

Not quite, I love the idea of Good Friday footy but South v Glenelg is hardly a marquee game, more a local grudge match and I anticipate it about as much as my next outbreak of herpes, I'll look at the score out of curiousity like I do all SANFL games and for updating the sites home page but that'd be the extent of my interest.

Ideally a marquee game involving finalists at Adelaide Oval suit but South deserve to hang onto it forever and a day because they initiated it where other clubs were to scared to upset fairy tale tellers.

Good Friday is regarded as community football day in Victoria. There are loads of matches across the state on GF.
I go to watch South Mildura and Irymple every year.

The best crowds at Noarlunga for South home games have always been against the Tigers.

Due more to the occasion than the opponent. It was the first ever game at Noarlunga, and the crowd was a mite over 10 thousand as I recall.
