Of course location means nothing, the Crows moved their home games from West Lakes to Adelaide Oval this year but it doesn't mean they lose any history.
Got nothing to do with legalese, you're either the same club or you aren't, its simple and no legalese is required for anyone with a bit of nouse or common sense.

So when port win the flag this year will hey have won one or 35 or however many it is? This is just so silly.

The only people that should decide whether they want to own that previous heritage is the old port magpies are their supporters

2 or possibly 3

Could be one AFL premiership and one SANFL premiership, 2 AFL flags or 2 AFL flags and one SANFL flag. Depends how the next month or two go. Pretty simple maths.

Well if the Por Powah Weserves win the SANFL league premiership this year you can sit comfortable in the knowledge that it is their one and only flag.

Meanwhile, a few thousand supporters will be celebrating Port Adelaide's 37th SANFL league flag.

EVERYBODY WINS!!!

1877
First SAFA season

Teams in alphabetical order
Adelaide
Bankers
Kensington
Port Adelaide
South Adelaide
South Park
Victorian
Woodville

From this point on
Any team that folded ended its history
Any team that defected and went to another comp ended its history [As Port did in 2013]

It surely can not be any other way ?

Port Adelaide that started in the comp in 1877 finished up in 2013
Yes, they are entitled to keep that history

Port Power is a AFL club that started in 1997
It is this entity that has a B grade playing in the SANFL
They have their own , different history
The only thing is that both clubs share the SAME name being Port Adelaide

What next
Adelaide Crows tracing back a history to the 1877 Adelaide

I don't remember hearing any announcements that the Port Adelaide Football Club folded in 2013. Can you find a media release or article please?

The change from 2010 to 2011 was administrative only, and didn't change the fabric of the team.

The change from 2013 to 2014 was massive, i.e. it became a reserves team.

If this is approved im out next year.
Cows already have a handful of top up players where are they going to find another 20-30 players? Thats right they will rape the other clubs and country football sides.
Norwood better show some spine this time in end of year discussions. We should be trying to weaken the AFL reserves sides not strengthen them.

apparently players will come from the Ammos

Rowey is saying the SANFL clubs wont allow it as they don't want the AFL sides stronger.............but the SANFL clubs (apart from dogs/panthers) voted them in..........

none of the SANFL clubs will show any spine and fight this - if it is true, apart from the dogs/panthers who I would assume will hold their positions

Crows can have a reserves team, but no league team. Easy, problem solved.

We don't claim to have won seven flags though, only three.

There's a lot to chuckle about in this thread. But the thing that makes me, and apparently others, laugh the hardest, is people trying to tell a club, it's members and supporters, who they are, what their history is, how future premierships will be counted etc. Do any of you stop and think 1-how ridiculous that is and more importantly 2-how futile it is?

I certainly hope the Magpies do not win the premiership. But if they do, let me give you a bit of a tip that might help some of you to realise the futility of your comments. 1-People won't be chanting Power and 2-it won't be the Power song that plays over the PA system. Oh, and another hint, they'll be counting it as their 37th SANFL premiership, they won't be saying, oh but some people on an internet forum say we're not the same club any more!

Yes, same club, different location. Location means nothing.

bennymacca wrote:Can the eagles claim woodville history?

No, different clubs. The current Eagles was a new club that commenced in 1991.

bennymacca wrote:If the answer is yes to both of those questions then it is yes to port too

It isn't so I'm glad you've worked it out.

What about Brisbane claiming the Fitzroy history?

Cool, demote them from the league to reserves, and while we're at do the same to Port and dissolve their current reserves and 18's teams.

P#ss the Power reserves off to the Ammos and reinstate the real Magpies pre 1997.
Wishful thinking I know.
