Brett Higgins played for Port Magpies early to mid-90's. Not sure if his father coached. Brett was on the Crows list in 1994 and moved to Glenelg in 1999 after playing in a Premiership at Port in 1998.

Brett was recruited from Port's country zone....

This is correct.

Sounds like a good coach, at least until matches start being played.

Next South need to replace their dud players with some good ones, or it won't matter who coaches them.

I know Grant Coffee coached son Jared at Central in the Under 18's a few season's back...

The last time when we had a father coach his son was Mike Nunan coaching Tim in 1992. In fact he coached him to be part of a premiership in 1991.

Before that Kevin (Buffalo) Higgins coached his son Stuart in 1990.

Graham Campbell coached his son Rodney in 1994

Fos Williams coached Mark and Anthony from 1976 to 1978.

Jack Oatey coached Robert from 1974 to 1978.

Agree, we need at least 10 or 12 players who are not duds if we are to have our colours atop of Norwoods on the chimney.

I am pleased with the appointment the club has made.
I wish my remembering was as good as my forgetting

Did Mike Nunan coach his son Tim at North?

That was 1991, same year Jack Cahill coached Scott Cahill at Port.

Mike Nunan also coached Tim in 1992.

Was Scott still out with Port in 1992? And technically did John Cahill coach Scott? Did Scott play league?

You beat me to it ;)

Did Robert play in a premiership under Jack?
Interestingly, IIRC Robert came to Sturt after he'd been sacked by Norwood, so they would've coached against each other.

Excellent appointment and very well managed by the Board in terms a no leaks or speculation, they recognised what they needed assembled a good panel and got exactly the coach the club requires without an excessive long term contract. Part of his job is to set foundations for subsequent coaches to follow together with a strong relationship with Tony Bamford for important on-going junior development of South's metro and country zones. Excellent appointment for not just SAFC but for a changing SANFL comp as well.

Good get for both South and the SANFL. Might get one or two back that left after disagreements with Fuller from what I've heard.
