Thewlis and Fields racked up big numbers and were good, but stuffed around with it too much across the half back line at times, but they were certainly in good company.
Just one of those that got away.

I like/rate Gotch - he's a real 'goer' & played well.
Too many passengers in 2nd half IMHO.

'Darth' Viede was good in 1st quarter, then not seen - did he get injured?
Heard on radio that McKernan has a "bleeding eye" - any news on him?

Veide faded out of the game after quarter time but unfortunately he wasn't alone.

South won 3 quarters... sat back and watched the Crows kick 9 goals to 0 in the 3rd. Just cant get my head around that.
Plenty of non contributors for South today...perhaps the week off will freshen them up but I think there maybe a few changes before the next game. :? :

Incidentally, when I checked out the app my first thought was that a hell of a breeze must have blown up around half time. It must be one of the strangest quarter by quarter score lines in a while.

What's happened to Eddy. He was on fire at the start of the season. Don't think he is averaging 2 goals a game for the last 4 rounds. Is he off the boil or is he being tagged ?

He's a Full Forward, of course he gets tagged, every week in fact.

Combination of things really. Delivery not as good. Hands not as sticky. Defenders doing a better job. Got a lot of goals 'out the back', Pagan's paddock style, in the opening rounds, which hasn't happened of late.

Ok I'll put it another way. Are the opposition paying much closer attention to him bearing I mind that last year he was hardly a prolific goal getter.

Last year he played second fiddle to Wundke with little game time in the matches he played, thus his output not as great.

Thompson was good on him today, and probably the best opponent that's been on him this year, but didn't help that the delivery was largely poor. Either long, high bombs into the 50, or dropping short of his lead. He was double-teamed quite regularly today, and I don't recall him getting a touch inside about 45 metres from goal. Took a couple of good marks, but too often he had to lead well beyond 50 to get the ball.

I fear that this loss signals the start of a return to mediocrity.

The South of old would have rolled over in that last quarter on the path to a 15-goal drubbing. This is the second game this season we've lost despite winning 3 of the 4 quarters.

Not the first time this year a poor third quarter has cost South. Last week against Port, (although of course they are taring apart most teams) but also the one against the Eagles after going in to half time with a very solid lead also comes to mind. Think the week off comes at a very good time for South, although a red hot Sturt at Unley awaits.
No Surrender!

Sturt at Unley will be the real test of where South are at this season.

You are right Scott, past South teams would have packed it in at 3/4 time if it had 9 goals kicked against it in a quarter, to regain composure and win easily the last stanza was almost unheard of at Pantherland, we will have a few hiccups along the way, and we will learn from them.

Funny how I never see you at the monthly information meetings asking questions. You don't know half what you pretend to know.
Oh, and the next time you call him a c*** I hope he plants his fist in your face. He may have made the wrong call on the Reserves, bur we're only here because of him. Maybe I'll do it on his behalf.
You're only happy when you're moaning.

Sorry for posting in a post match thread not involving my club.

Agree with Scott, i thought the crowd numbers were pretty good, better than i expected on a very pleasant May day. I think i'am right (but could be wrong) that South are the only team to play against both AFL teams two weeks in a row (?). The South boys looked exhausted at half time and the 3rd quarter didn't surprise me, however their last quarter showed character, last year this would have been a complete wipe out. The break couldn't have come at better time, South in the last 2 weeks have been beaten up by bigger AFL bodies, the height of the Cows was too much for the smaller South side, although South at times didn't help themselves by indirect overuse of handball.

Finding excuses to praise a loss is also a "south of old" thing to do

Was really hoping they would have a successful year, if centrals are going to suck I would hope south do well but I'm not sure they have it in them to make a deep finals rub

Also, I saw they got 5k to the aldinga game. Was that played at the same time as this game? Maybe explain the smaller crowd?
