It does make a mockery of the finals rule which limits 17 AFL listed players - the intention of the rule was to "weaken" the team, but if you had this weekend's scenario in finals, I would say that if you took out the worst 5 from the 22 Power players available and added the best 4 top up players, it will be a stronger team.

2014 GF would likely have been a different result if this rule was in from the start. Eg. Russell, Flynn, out, Biemans, Bruggerman in.

That is correct.

In fact, I thought Port's two best players in that Grand Final were the only two non AFL listed players at the time, Summerton and Krakouer.

All the AFL listed players must get a game before top ups. With no injuries currently at AFL level there are simply no spots left for him
