Absolute BS and spin designed to suck people in and have their show talked about

What's worse, there are even people In Adelaide who believe or even half believe the rumours they create to get people to phone in each weekend....

No different to any sports show where surprise surprise the panellists will have complete opposite opinions or make dumb outlandish statements just to get the listeners irrate enough to call in. Just love one day for there to be no callers or even better, callers to change the subject and 'control' the discussion / topic. It would make them lift their game somewhat.

Maybe...
But when I want news from the SANFL I find that this site is the most informative place. There are many posters on here, well positioned within their clubs that know much more about what's going on than I do. Hence, when I hear a rumour with potential ramifications as large as this one, I will come to safooty and ask what people know about it.
I truly hope this rumour turns out to be BS, and the easiest way to find out is to pose the question on this forum.

Westies president and two board members have made public statements advising that there has been no merger discussion at westies.

I have a slightly different view point that others may disagree with but any discussion about the sanfl on radio or in advertiser that raises awareness of the sanfl is not necessarily a bad thing -- at least the competition is being discussed and being given some recognition --- i would prefer good things discussed but i will take any discussion over no discussion anytime.

Edited to add -- i am confident that the work on finaces being done by westies board and CEO has the club heading in the right direction. Sturt shows that it CAN be done!

I believe it would be a tragedy if anything was to happen to south, glenelg or any other club but until the fat lady sings i still have high hopes that thier sitution will be resoved.

Good points all round Old Fella.

While I don't believe these rumours and I would hate to see any clubs merge i don't think it's realistic that all the SANFL clubs can survive on their own feet without a merger/relocation.

You have Glenelg, West, Eagles and then the Power all Westish of the city and then you have South who have never really been able to capture the southern region with any significance.

For the SANFL to survive i believe it needs the AFL clubs gone and then potentially and unfortunately a merger between Glenelg/West and a new team from a countryish region such as Mount Barker.

The SANFL can't afford to lose 3 clubs such as Glenelg, West and South.

But don't the clubs all own 1/8 of all that land at West Lakes?
Why would any of them merge with that asset?
As the merkats say,
simple!

Is that the same as when they say the coach has their backing?

Merge West, Glenelg, South & Eagles as one side
Merge Sturt, Norwood, North & Centrals as another side.
Then surely these 2 sides would be able to overcome the "might & professionalism" of the 2 AFL listed teams of talented kids

Why not merge them all and then they can play with each other and make life simpler all round eh

KG stood by his story on the radio this morning, said the informal talks were initiated by South.
