I hope I'm wrong but I think this will get ugly. I have no issue with Jeff trying out personnel to see who he reckons is in his plans for next year and who isn't but the way we line up and our current game plan won't help him learn much. Playing as small as we do just makes us cannon fodder for teams with taller, bigger players. It means we have little or no structure, no get out clause to pump the ball up the line when in strife, no big bloke to drop it on the head of in the forward line, no means of defending when the opposition do it to us. Our chip the ball 15m gamestyle relies heavily on high skill, high fitness, high speed and high confidence. We don't tick those boxes so it's doomed to fail. Kids like Olsson,Lange, Durdin, Pisani who show they have a bit should be encouraged to break lines and pump the ball to a big bloke leading on the wing, centre half forward, full forward. Not look sideways for a 15m nothing pass. I reckon this is doing nothing but stifling their development. We're getting cut up on the counter attack so it's obviously draining us physically as well. I won't fault our effort, we just aren't good enough at this stage and playing this style of footy means we won't be for a long time.

We outscored them after quarter time and we won 2 quarters. It that positive enough for you Northerner and Gazza?

What positive did you come up with this week N.

For all the moaning from some of the Centrals supporters on here I expected to come against a rabble.

Not sure what kind of standard the doggies have been playing in previous weeks but the team that came out against the eagles was actually pretty competitive with a few kids who you can tell will be very good once they get a bit more experience. Thought your ruckman did a reasonable job against an in-form Redden and was very impressed with Montgomerie. From an outsiders perspective the main thing you are missing at the moment is a key forward. Yes, its more than likely you won't play finals this year given how many key injured players you have and the inexperience of the current players but next year your team should be around the mark.

Eagles had a tough time at the Office and aside from our fast start we really only broke even with Centrals for the rest of the match. Very concerning was our wayward kicking for goal and wasted opportunities. Foote's absence was sorely felt in the middle but gave some others the opportunity to step up. Redden was great, Sinor had another good game and Von Bertouch probably should have probably ended up with 5 goals. Jack Hayes great around the ground but very poor with his kicking for goal. Lonergan looked underdone following his return and Rowe had an uncharacteristic quiet day - whoever stood him did a great job.

Also it felt like there was a reasonable crowd there today. Certainly more than would otherwise be the case at Woodville for a match against Centrals.

Once again a bad quarter cost us dearly .We were very undersize but the boys had a crack against a very good side.Luke Habel did a great job on Rowe.Found it tough to score into the wind and surprisingly the reserves side had the same problem both sides kicking just 1 goal into it. The opposition never have a problem doing it .Thought Thompson tried hard and Montgomerie is developing into a very good player .

89 inside 50's between the teams today, 70 or 71 of them were at the Southern end.

Not a lot of scoring at the Northern end in either game today and both teams scored the same in League and Reserves

I’m an Eagles man but Centrals were not that bad .
A big shout out to the Centrals fans yes they were loud mouths . But unlike Norwoods fans didn’t take their teams performance out on Eagles fans .
The umpires however got it from everyone how many Centre bounces in a row can go wrong before they throw the ball up .
And Centrals kicking the ball out from full back excluding the second ball on the ground why did the umpire at the southern end continually make the full back re kick the ball in .
Southern end was a mine field for both teams going to the northern end . Both teams kicked out on the full most times leaving the defensive area .
However at the eagles eventually went to the other wing and probably kicked to Centrals players .
A win is a win at least

But again eagles win

Strange days indeed.
Strange when the opposition supporters are more pragmatic and positive about the Dogs than Doggie fans.

Eagles dominated clearances with Redden and Sinor and had some good targets up fwd.
Joel Hayes again reminded me that he has attributes that would have been fine at AFL level b4 he does the absurd. His set shot from 10 metres out that barely passed the goal line was bizarre.

The Dogs are bereft of experience and height and are running a whole heap of kids who all seem to click in at 175cm. Most of them look great in the Magoos but need time before they can transfer that form into the higher grade.
One who is doing that is Montgomerie. Great game down back against some quality talls. Took 9 marks including 4 contested but also affected 12 spoils showing he knows when to back himself and also when to defend.
Habel did great shutdown of Rowe and still won plenty of ball.
Boyd continues to work hard but it seems that we are losing Trav Schillers input as a result? Or maybe thats more about Trav still struggling after no pre season

The outstanding game from Rhett was a highlight whilst Durdin and OBrien are developing nicely.

Which of the younger players are you enjoying see develop?

Same old story either hopeless first quarters or second half fade outs.

At least they are consistent every week.

In the last three quarters Centrals had the use of a 5 goal gale twice to the Eagles once. The final result was 11.13 to 7.7, 24 scoring shots to 14. Although it wasn't a great match to watch a let down was on the cards. Must remember we had Foote, Goldsworthy, Thompson, Haylock and Sharrad all out injured. There is also Sam Lowson and James Tsitas to be possibly fitted in to the team.

Normally a taller player is on Rowe and Rowe kicks more goals .

Durdin and O'Brien are outstanding and very promising, and Rhett is coming along in leaps and bounds. You're right they were enjoyable. It was good to see Lachlan Grubb get a game in the league he is also a possible exciting player. In the reserves I have noticed Rhys Cannizzarro he may be the next youngster to make the league side.

While Ferret makes more sense yesterday at times the Eagles reverted back to last years game style .
Which could be many reasons .
