Has no impact IMHO. The interest it creates more than negates those who would choose to watch it online as opposed to going. I'll probably go to more games this year despite having an online pass and joined up as a member because of it.

I like the stream but definitely think it would keep a lot of fair-weather types away

Also think a lot of the people who jump off when the team isn't going so well will do so even quicker.

I know a few people who aren't bothering to go to away games anymore either and choosing to watch them on the stream

Been watching few highlights of other games as well as Norths games and I think we are very spoilt as the commentary from people like Big Phil, Phil H, John N, Chris K, Michael M, etc, etc as it is top notch. I much prefer it to the AFL. Well done to the SANFL for having such professional, passionate people doing the commentaries. I call a spade a spade and would be the first person to say it isnt up to scratch but well done all.

If so many commentators are working on this doing a great job agreed, then with the SANFL making heaps of coin,
why not just add one radio broadcast on a Saturday for the ordinary SANFL followers?
The new streaming arrangement will not add any new followers to the league just reduce the crowds and gate takings/income for the clubs.
Still plenty of AFL on local radio stations.
Do you think radio stations will scrub their AFL coverage anytime soon?
Given super weather,I wonder after round 4, how current SANFL crowd sizes compare with 2016?

Separate to the lack of SANFL game coverage on radio there definitely seems to be less advertising of the league in general. In previous years I felt like I have heard more advertising of the upcoming rounds on all different radio stations.

Does anyone know which SANFL game will be on channel 7 this week?

The live streaming is keeping people away from the game. It is not bringing them to it.

Not 'official' stats, but roughly:

2015- 2935 (17 games)
2016- 2869 (17)
2017- 2719 (19)

So 5% down on 2016, and 7% on 2015.

Agree with Wedgie, the standard of the commentary has been very good when the stream has been up and working (which for South games has been all but 10 minutes v West)

Just out of interest - I used the Digital pass to stream the Bays/Dogs game on my iPhone on the weekend, using 4G (as my $hithouse wifi struggles to get 1Mbps so wouldn't even start the stream), and it used approx 2GB of mobile data. Worked pretty well, other than having to log on again after each quarter break, (figuring no point paying to stream no action during the breaks)
Players win touches, Teams win matches, Clubs win Premierships.

2GB? at $10 a GB thats an extra $20 to watch one game if you don't have wifi or are out and about.

I raised this several times earlier in the thread, depending upon your mobile data package it can be a very costly exercise to watch matches when you're not at home / wifi enabled.

Does anyone know if we can watch the Eagles/Glenelg U16 game on our live pass or will it be streamed by SANFL.
