That's why the Foxtell Cup has to be made to work in favour of the SANFL.

Intersting Central have been the most vocal recently about changes to the SANFL.

There's a similar article in the Eastern Courier with quotes from Matt benson (Sturt) and Domenic Shepley (Norwood). The bottom half of the article is the same as the Central's one in the News Review. I wouldn't be surprised if they've rung around all the clubs to put a grab in for each of the local newspapers, for each club in the SANFL.

"SANFL bosses urge ABC to stick with state sports":

The South Australian National Football League is in talks with the ABC, as speculation mounts about state-based sports possibly being cut by the broadcaster.

It follows the announcement of ABC production jobs being lost in several states.

WAFL in Western Australia is also under a cloud. Last year the ABC abandoned its future coverage of the Hopman Cup in Perth.

SANFL club CEOs have voiced their concerns over the uncertainty that exists over the future of ABC Television’s long running coverage of SANFL football.

john olsen was on 5AA fri night after 6pm and said the coverage is vital and i think the sanfl give abc $60000 to help fund telecasts.
How much does the abc spend per year on the coverage?
Should the afl step in and provide funding to try and keep coverage going??? Or do the afl want both foxtel cup and possibly state leagues all on fox??

Foxtel could be a possible saviour if the ABC pull the pin but I wince thinking how AFL orientated the coverage might be..

Foxtel already show the QLD and NSW AFL leagues match of the day (in a delayed package) each week on their Main Event channel. Only issue is you have to be a subscriber in that state to see it. Why I have no idea.

I thought he said $60K per telecast and I thought that seemed a lot of money to pay per week? I have no idea what telecasts cost. Would it be $60K per season? Then it seems a pittance per game - only $3K.

Seriously you think the SANFL funds the ABC $60K per week for 23 minor round games plus 4 finals weeks??? Geez!

Do the maths on that!

No I don't think that. That's why I asked. When I heard the interview that's how I took what John Olsen said but it seemed too huge an annual figure.

What would it cost the ABC per week I wonder? The SANFL are contributing about $2500 per game.
