All it will do is give more people reason not to attend.

No offence to Booney or port Adelaide fans
But Chad either needs to be drawn over the coals by ports higher ups or sacked
Why because being such a numbskull evey time port go to Norwood or face them in the finals .
The crowd will be so vocal against them .
I'm not that bright but even I can see saying that fuels the fire .

And I'm 53 I recall little old ladies sitting on the fence at Alberton with mouths that would melt the devil .
And I'm sure every team has them but at least SANFL coaches who don't coach port or have that surname know not to rally the fans against them .

just like the bloke who chucked his membership card at the crows players at prospect that turned out to be a crows supporter and nothing to do with North

Or the kid that chucked stones at Roger Delaney at Prospect.

Interesting, if true.

Won't be much from here on in about this story that will be. I know one part that is true though.

A-ha. Your sneaky use of the word 'should' deceived me, tipper. I should've known (or at least read) better. ;)

once you realise that 99% of everything i say (or type) is bullshit it becomes much easier

edit: actually i suppose that isnt really true now that i think about it. im usually pretty straight on the interwebs when typing my opinion. its mainly in person that im full of shit. but my above post is all made up (well, apart from the crows supporter having a go at crows players bit)

anyway, play on, lets get back to slagging off Port and defending those sweet and innocent* Norwood supporters

Tells us a lot about this competition and where we all are as supporters that there's no pre-game threads going and this one's getting all of the traffic (no doubt the SANFL and certain media outlets will be looking at it, as well).

Yeah, there's a real 'can't be arsed' apathy vibe going around, I think. Will be interesting to see how the crowds pan out this week, some pretty good turnouts last weekend but that may be an aberration due to the long weekend?

I'd start a North match thread, but the credibility of our on-field performances are hanging by it.

Apparently Norwood supporters almost made Mitch Grigg cry during a Crows Reserves game last year (source: Ex-Norwood player still involved with the club).

Dogwatcher wrote:Well, no doubting that there are passionate supporters out there and going by Facebook, it would seem it was one of those passionate supporters who set this whole scenario up.
From what I can read, via Facey and in the story, there appears to have been two issues on the night.

1) A confrontation on field in which Kane Cornes was insulted, to which he responded in kind. The comments from both men seem OTP and deliberately provocative. It would seem that one person instigated the issue and went to FB to let everyone know, the other involved himself in the verbal altercation and then had a bigger mouthpiece to make a noise about it. A couple of hundred Facey followers v a man with massive media contacts looking to make anything into a story.
I reckon if the Kane doesn't want to deal with stuff like that, he shouldn't respond. He's a club official and should handle the situation with dignity.
The supporter might need to consider whether his up-close verbal attacks are doing his club and SANFL supporters any favours.

Maybe reread the facey post and see who approached who first, and who, by the letter of the law, technically assaulted someone??

Facts or fiction, choose what you want.

2) The other situation seems to be about Kane and his family attending the game and having to leave early. As a parent, I sympathise with that - but, earthy banter is what you'll get from any footy crowd: AFL, SANFL or grass roots. I don't reckon what you hear at Norwood is any different to what you hear on any other terrace. I suggest that that stuff doesn't go on around the players' families at AFL level as they sit with each other and are relatively sheltered from the hoi polloi. I understand that Kane might have felt disappointed in what was going on around him, but it is no better, nor worse than what goes on elsewhere. You do have to choose where you stand/sit at any football game, depending upon the crowd that is around you (my experience at Norwood is that if you want a moderate football experience, you don't sit near the Baulderstone Stand, nor Hill at Norwood).

They're two different situations being used to build up a story involving a high-profile football family who love the media - and banter - when it's in their favour.
But the other bloke involved in the on-field 'discussion' with the master crowd baiter probably needs to consider his actions as well.

Sorry, the quote thing didn't work properly!!

Here's the start of the Facey post:

Walking back past the Power Reserves huddle I yelled out
"How about paying your way maggots"? Next thing Cornes is in my face,
Cornes "bit lippy mate"?

I read that as the Norwood supporter initiating the confrontation.
I took the Facebook post as refreshingly honest, the play by play recall reflecting the supporter not backing down from their involvement in what had developed.

As for assault? That's an interesting call.
I'd be interested to see how that played out.

Read it wrong mate.
The abuse was directed the Port huddle.
Cornes is at Glenelg now, so played no official role on the night.
He literally appeared out of nowhere.

By grabbing the hat off someone's head you are technically committing assault.
As was pointed out on the night by an ex policeman enquiring if anyone wanted to take the matter further.

Why would you, 20 second exchange, done and dusted.

Cornes just trying to establish himself in the media, headline hunting.

Port Adelaide, one club.
Whether we like it or not, a Port Adelaide person is going to be offended by your comment, whether they are still actively involved with the club or not.
Did you expect to walk past and yell and not get a response? You initiated it - had you not yelled, nothing would have happened.
I'm not justifying the Cornes response (read my original post), but responding to your point regarding who initiated the situation. You can't claim to be blameless in this situation.
And...given the headlines, you have to wonder what favours it doing us, as passionate SANFL supporters.
Whoever you are, you're always going to come off second best against a Cornes in this situation.

Nor could Mr Cornes then either. I didn't read his beef earlier in the week, but Im sure he would have accepted some responsibility too.

None of this makes your behaviour acceptable - hardly something to be proud of.
Of course we are only reading your (naturally) biased view of the night.

Festers big enough and definitely ugly enough to vouch for himself, but surely what he's yelled falls under the category of footy banter?

If that's all that was said, then I agree with JK. Particularly if it's directed in the general direction of the huddle and not at someone or uttered in their personal space. I've heard a lot worse in the outer in recent times.
