From the link posted above by matt1:
Average Attendance (Minor Round)
2013 – 2620
2014 – 2819

However if interloper games are excluded, i.e only pure matches are considered, the average attendance per game is 2588. A decrease from last year's average crowd at pure games. Given that 2013 crowds were a recent historical low then this result is NOT good for the league.

The probability that those two means are statistically different is????

Like I have said before given the season with a couple of high attendance games affecting the mean it would probably be better to compare modes.

Here are all the crowd figures with the difference from the average crowd of 2819 for the year. The figures in red are games with a Reserves team.Out of the 90 games only 26 had higher than average attendance (29%), 14 of those games had a Reserves team playing.

There's an hour of my life I won't get back. :D

Thanks for that - this gives a different perspective - over 70% of games were below average attendance, a few games that included a country based reserves game that was promoted as a fund raiser and Anzac day games have impacted on the mean average.

No matter how the spin doctors try and paint this I don't see any evidence of significant improvement as the only clubs that will be better off are those who have shown significant on-field improvement.

I can't find all the crowd figures for 2013 so I can't compare them, but I did for 2012 and 2011.

Year Average Median
2011 3238 2895
2012 2892 2514
2014 2819 2419

Here they are from my figures:

Edit: Good work on the table, however you have three games marked in red for Round 4 - the 3,898 was Sturt vs Eagles

And only 6 of the last 30 games had an above average including the reserves showdown and only 1 of the last 8
At a time when you'd think interest should be at its highest with final's places at stake ?

Have thought for a while that the SANFL should drop the admission price back down to $10 reckon it will help increase crowds and also really offer a point of difference compared to AFL over cost of going to the footy.

Surely with the SANFL selling its west lakes land is has the money to do this. Clubs would benefit from increased spend on food and drinks.

Also reckon SANFL need to get on front foot more with advertising seems quieter this year.
