Total bs decision

Hey lets chuck another man out there who cares we'll only get a fine and lose a game next year!

Whether they meant it or not they cheated 1 extra man makes them more potent and they were able to have 3 shots on goal in 4 minutes

North players will sit in the grand final changerooms knowing they shouldnt be there.

Try playing a basketball game with 6 men on court against 5

Guttered. Obviously rules are meant to be broken and there is no repercussions..........this season anyway.

Also interesting to note is that if you take the view that Allmond was the extra player (presumably because he came off to even up the numbers), then he didn't touch the ball whilst he was on the ground for the start of the last quarter, and only laid one tackle in the first minute.

He moves quick, especially after signing a contract. ;)

Still though, the captain didn't notify the umpire. It's in the rule book and has been for a while. No matter what every one's opinions are. The rule states that the captain or acting captain must approach the on-field umpire and request a head count. North got away with it on a technicality. We can talk about all this nonsense of what is fair and what is not. But in reality the Eagles should never have put themselves in the position to lose the game after being 47 points up with North not looking at even getting close. The Eagles gave up and North were the best side in the end. The 8 points they scored in those dreadful 8 minutes i believe weren't the 1 factor for why the Eagles lost. It may look to those as they cheated and it was un-fair. But the Eagles knew of this quite early and yet still took their time to get the message out to the captain. So lets move on with this and let it go.

No fun in that, let's flog it to death, it will get more pages than the GF.

I go for the Eagles but totally agree with you, it isn't that hard to ring one of the runners to get the captain to inform the umpire.

North have been found guilty of breaking the rules, they have been smashed over the knuckles with a wet lettuce.
So, this week if North are struggling against Norwood, they'll just run another player or two onto the ground during the game- if they get caught just another slap on the wrist,...
Yet another mind boggling decision from the sanfl...almost as puzzling as suspending 50k from the salary caps of 2 sanfl clubs who are doing it tough financially.

Read the rule book.

Different game but when discussing cricket rules my great friend always points to the rule that identifies the spirit of the game comes first.

IMO, whilst this decision meets legal needs and, as noted by the learned man, he was limited in his actions this decision is clearly against the spirit of the game of football and is a legal yes but very disappointing decision that sets a strong precedence for teams to breech the rules and then claim negligence.

I wouldn’t have been comfortable as an Eagles supporter if the decision was made for us to play the GF (although would’ve taken it). I also don’t think North, who were in the wrong, should’ve been granted the win. The QC wanted to replay the match, but didn’t have the power to make that decision. That was the only fair decision. Surely the SA Football Commission has the power to replay the match if they chose to? If so, this is yet another monumental cock up by Olsen and co. The self sabotage of those responsible for football in this state is unforgivable.

Now for whichever team wins, "cheats will prosper".

P.S sucked in Kurt Slaven, bad luck Eagles supporters.

That's irrelevant. He enabled another North player to touch the ball, influence the game etc. At any rate, there were probably several North players who didn't touch the ball in that period and several who had a lot of the ball and one who even kicked a goal. Would it have made a difference if they'd taken the goalscorer off?

It doesn't matter which player came off; it matters that they had 19. Clearly there's a significant advantage in having an extra man.

As Godden said, they couldn't work out where North were getting a loose man from and actually changed their tactics as a result and sent a loose man back themselves.

Additionally, being a man short makes it significantly harder to score. Although the momentum was with North, the Eagles may have missed out on an opportunity to score themselves during that period.

I think the right decision was made. As the judge said, reversing the result would arguably be a little too savage. However, there's no denying that North received a significant advantage for those four minutes.

After a big 2nd semi final in the reserves North have promoted James Schwarz to their league team for this weeks Grand Final.

Something immeasurable is the additional momentum North got in the first 5 minutes of that last quarter.

They were well on top in the 3rd quarter and the first 5 minutes of the last pretty much "doubled" that momentum and the game was effectively over even before they hit the front.

I think the influence of the #19thman was noticeable and I don't doubt it had some influence on the outcome.

Having said that, they won, the goal umpires waved their flags to declare scores correct, game over in my book.
