Fantastic to have keen volunteers but this isn't a job that can afford so many mistakes ... cruel but true.
We'll agree to disagree on this one.

This was back in 1985 when I was 15-16 waiting for my licence so I could be in the Woodville Cheer Squad each week.
My "payment" was $5 and two drinks, usually the house specials, rasberry & lemonade.
Even at this level (Glenelg South League) and age, there was an expectation that the scores would be accurate.
In all honesty for SANFL league football the scoreboard should be manned by a league official (I always thought they were) and bar anything else they should have a radio because a lot of callers keep manual track and thus discover an error fairly quickly. If nothing else its useful confirmation, (of course callers getting the score right is another matter)
Sorry if this sounds tough but certain things need to be correct to have games presented at the right standard and at SANFL league level the scoreboard is one of then.
This is said with no idea how good or bad the scoreboard at Unley was today.

Well said bayman.Big Phil wrote:But too many times today at Unley the young scoreboard attendant miss-calculated the scores or completely missed a goal or point registered and failed to put it on the board.
About time you listened to bayman BigPhil! I reckon some of the guys at your radio station (including yourself) have some issues with the English language let alone mathematics....very easy to be critical isn't it? No respect!

A lesson to people who intend to attend a game at Unley Oval this year - the scoreboard and game clock should only be used as an approximate guide and is not a true indication of the actual score and time elapsed. Numerous times the scoreboard was incorrect, whilst the game clock stops when reaching 30mins, and in the 2nd quarter wasn't started until about 2mins into the quarter.
The time clock was borrowed from THEBARTON...![]()
Yes it's unfortunate for us that the historic analogue retro time clock we have at our ground has finally shat itself.
The electricians tried in vain to get it working but had to give up considering its age and the fact that the company no longer exists that made it.
A little bit of knowledge wouldn't hurt you Hopeful Jelly Belly, I congratulate you on your win, but I take offence to your attack on one of our young volunteers who puts his hand up to help do a job that no one else can be bothered with.![]()
Agreed Rucci. Stupid comment by jellybaby...little respect shown...might come back to bite him.
Eags too good. A day to forget for the Blues, we just weren't switched on from the opening bounce.
Bring on ANZAC day!

The Eagles came out really switched on and two early goals came of it. Sturt found their feet not long after though and by quarter time the scores were just about level - 5 goals each. Sturt's most dominant period of the game was the first 10-15 minutes of the 2nd quarter, but the Eagles were able to hold steady and ended up in front by about two goals at half time.
The 3rd quarter was much of the same with the Eagles able to continue to pressure Sturt and get a handy lead of about 3 goals at 3 quarter time. The last quarter was most impressive from an Eagles point of view, extending the lead out to 8 goals and running out the game very well despite missing Leigh Treeby since quarter time.
It was hard to pick out best players. It really was a team effort. Jarrad, Broadbent, Goldsworthy and Miles were terrific. Cheep bobbed up with 4 goals. Welsh and Rowntree got into the game as it wore on and Grocke played a good 100th game. Crane was outstanding in the first half for Sturt, but in the end it was the solid contribution of the 20 Eagles players that saw a fairly comfortable victory and a handy percentage boost against what should be a team that is pushing top 3.

I dont agree the scoreboard attendants did not start scoring until the 2 minute mark (or there abouts ) of the seocnds game .When they did finally get going they couldn't add up in either grades .And why use kids why not adults every other ground can find an adult to do the board.
Time clock stopped at the 30 minute mark of the quarter ? why
