I am going to be really pissed if the ABC ceases SANFL coverage. Living interstate, after years of only having websites such as this for information on my favourite footy comp, the ABC gets a new channel and starts to show games. Sure, it's a few days after the event, and it's late at night, but at least I can watch it. Then, what was it, after one season it ends. Eventually they make the games available on iView, and once again I am extremely grateful for the ability to see the games.
I guess if it does come to it I could write letters and sign petitions, but I did that when they stopped the ABC2 replays and that made zero difference so I don't see much point in doing it this time. I understand that sports coverage is expensive, and I understand that people in the Sydney head office have no interest in SANFL football. What I don't understand is how they seem unable to understand the importance others place on these things. I don't have much interest in many of the things on ABC TV and radio, but I am fully aware that many people do. In light of this, I am quite happy for my tax dollars to be spent via the ABC to bring these things to the public. The ABC is, in my opinion, partly there to broadcast content that commercial interests won't because it's not worth it financially. The local football competitions, including the SANFL, fall in to this category. The coverage might not be important to everyone, but they are important to enough people for them to be continued.
My 2 cents.
Crooked as a hooker.
Now suck my thumb.
Anybody wanna come get some?
