if fox become the saviour could they go to afl to try and demand the state league rules are same as afl???? And anything else they wanna change?

I thought i heard it at $60000 per year, that was my interpretation

Shorter half-time breaks (and probably qtr time breaks too) no doubt.

Yep, $60K a year.

I'd put in 60k to see the VFL or Sydney Club Rugby Union each Saturday afternoon.

ABC have cancelled their coverage of the Tiwi Island GF, have kept their Bowls coverage, but cancelled Women's Soccer.

I remember him throwing his weight behind the Glenelg Bowls club when the GFC laid claim to their space for car parking - solely because the GFC was a den of gambling, for it was full of evil pokies. I guess the pokies aren't that evil anymore, hey Nick?

EMPLOYMENT Minister Kate Ellis is among politicians pressuring the ABC not to drop its SANFL broadcasts.

The one-time sports minister who made extensive contacts within the sporting and media worlds in that role, has written to ABC managing director Mark Scott to drive home the importance of SANFL football to communities in South Australia.

"If it is the ABC's charter to broadcast that which reflects important community, sporting and cultural traditions and events, one cannot argue in favour of discontinuing SANFL coverage in South Australia," she writes in a letter provided to The Advertiser. "For decades and indeed generations, SANFL football has been at the centre of the sporting experiences, entertainment or community engagement of many in our state."

Independent senator Nick Xenophon has called on the ABC to immediately cease all cost-cutting plans pending a parliamentary inquiry.

Watching a VFL game today ( Boroughs v's Hawks ). Very average competition, no vibe, no-one here ?

Are the ABC planning on taking the VFL off Victorian TV ? If not, why are the SANFL being targeted ?

They plan to cut ALL state league telecasts (SANFL, WAFL, VFL, TSL, Queensland Rugby League and NSW Rugby Union)
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10

I am going to be really pissed if the ABC ceases SANFL coverage. Living interstate, after years of only having websites such as this for information on my favourite footy comp, the ABC gets a new channel and starts to show games. Sure, it's a few days after the event, and it's late at night, but at least I can watch it. Then, what was it, after one season it ends. Eventually they make the games available on iView, and once again I am extremely grateful for the ability to see the games.

I guess if it does come to it I could write letters and sign petitions, but I did that when they stopped the ABC2 replays and that made zero difference so I don't see much point in doing it this time. I understand that sports coverage is expensive, and I understand that people in the Sydney head office have no interest in SANFL football. What I don't understand is how they seem unable to understand the importance others place on these things. I don't have much interest in many of the things on ABC TV and radio, but I am fully aware that many people do. In light of this, I am quite happy for my tax dollars to be spent via the ABC to bring these things to the public. The ABC is, in my opinion, partly there to broadcast content that commercial interests won't because it's not worth it financially. The local football competitions, including the SANFL, fall in to this category. The coverage might not be important to everyone, but they are important to enough people for them to be continued.

My 2 cents.

From Facebook

Hi all, just a reminder about tomorrows (Friday) Unions & Save the SANFL on the ABC bbq/rally at 12.30pm outside the ABC building at Collinswood. Ive (B1) decided that Im going to dress as if Im going to watch my SANFL team :-) would be nice to see other members of this page dress the same, bring any flags, banners etc. of your club so ABC officials can see us in the crowd, would be good if the cheersquads turned up with all their floggers etc. too! See you there :-)
