You've got to get on the Roosters here surely Boon.

Surely you'd want north to win... A real underdog story.. Lowest ranked side to make the finals and fight their way to the GF... If they win it would be something out of a disney movie....

I wouldn’t go that far. I thought North were much better than their 5th finish. Plus they Beat Sturt, Norwood and the Eagles during the year.

Does anyone know how many times the team from 5th have won the GF?

Norwood 84’ was the only time mate, Port came from the Elim also in 98’ but finished minor round 4th

I respect Norwood, so they've got a small leg up there.

Sorry, I can't respect Norwood for two reasons:
1. They were the club that folded over, allowing the Ravens and Port Reserves in, thus killing off the integrity of the SANFL.
2. Their frequent breaching of salary cap regulations.

Whilst North did the wrong thing for 3 minutes and 39 seconds, Norwood have done it for years.

North for me in the GF!

The side Port had for the minor round just managed enough to get them in to the finals, after that they had half an AFL side on the park.
Back in the days before they had a cap on such things, nor were they required to field top ups from Amateur league, yet they had been tanking their SANFL talent for years before the Power entered the AFL, and in those early days, half the Power's side were still Magpies' players.
I think it's probably best if we just forget Port's '98 fluke.
Norwood '84 was the real deal. "History Makers", as they said in the media.

Half an AFL side on the park? Fluke? Methinks your memory is ******.

Finished 4th, 3 games clear of 5th and 1 game behind West and Norwood in second and third.

AFL games in 1998 - Tom Carr played 2, Burgoyne 10, Chalmers 3, Fiegert 10, that's it!

Back then qualification for finals meant you had to play more at SANFL level than at AFL level.

Northeast Ambrose Poulton
Carter Leys Fiegert
Tregenza Borlase Ormond-Allen
Brown Chalmers P.Burgoyne
Beinke Hodges Steed

Jaques Morgan Bamford

Ashely Carr Obst

Full of AFL players.....sober up mate!

Trigger and Ormond-Allen played a decent amount for the Crows in 98 too.

David Brown also played 4 games for the Power that year.
