Crows forced Port to use Magpies as a reserves side did they?

In a roundabout way, yes. Adelaide were the ones pushing and pushing for the changes, Port either took advantage of the heavy lifting Adelaide did or had no option but to follow suit. More A than B, for sure.

Definitely option A...
You can't tell me Port were happy to have their Power players scattered across the SANFL playing different game styles in different positions.

They were well on their way to getting most of them back to Alberton (which was an issue in its own right)

Sure they would have been happy but my understanding they were also respectful and understood the SANFL climate, unlike the Crows who were the clear instigators.

Well, you didn't have to have radar or spy vision goggles to see what was going on.

Its laughable people think Port weren't pushing hard for it too. They had their hands in the middle of the crows back pushing them to the front to cop the flack.

Port had been angling for a reserves team in the SANFL from as early as Mark Williams' tenure as coach. The simple fact is that Port didn't have the clout to force the issue. Adelaide is clearly the favoured big brother; as soon as the Crows started murmuring about a reserves team the SANFL couldn't drop its trousers quickly enough. Port had no need to push the Crows to the front. All the smears had to do was to climb onto the Crows' coat-tails and wait.

While Port would have preferred what we have now, this would have been way down the bottom of their to do list in 2012-13.

Getting supporters to turn up and replace the tarps would have been number one back then but I reckon the Magpies being the Power reserves side would have been up there as well.
