fair enough. More out than I thought. It was a bit hard to follow as a number of the eagles players were not listed on the sheet and I relied upon a couple of nearby Eagle supporters.

Could someone who was at the Eagles Vs Panthers trial game give a report as cricket finals prevented me from attending.

Having only been to one trial I'm interested on others take.

Is the game getting even uglier?
At Norwood both sides continuously flooded and 95%+ kicks were 10 metre kicks to team mates on tiny leads (backwards, sideways or forwards)
Whenever there was a turnover the team with the ball would have to stop, go backwards or hold onto it to give the forwards time to actually run in front of them.

I know we've seen this from some/most teams for the last 5 years but the short chipping crap seemed even more in action to me, only long kicks were sideways or backwards in defense to switch play.

Wasn't the case at Elizabeth yesterday. 11 goals in an even first quarter, before Centrals took control of the game. 35 goals in total between the two for the match - though still times where all players were in one half of the ground. Time will tell if that trend continues but I can't remember when so much end to end footy was on display as it was yesterday.

Good to hear, so plenty of long kicks and not much chipping?

DOC wrote:Eagles played, I think, a very strong line up. Happy to be advised otherwise. Wundke, Lewis and Thompson perhaps the three notable absentees.

Three more injuries for us. Taylor ankle and looked bad, Guilden and Dale more minor but did not play after quarter time. Notable absentees for us Liddle, Murphy!, Bass, Rolfe! Veide, Redigolo, Boyd, Furdin and the two unseen recruits Flagg and Darrou would all be expected to be in our strongest side.

Eagles played committed running football and were very good around the stoppages. They would have been pleased with their commitment and adhearance to the game plan. When South played well, they looked good enough. Rankine played down back in the second half and was impressive, as was Sam Overall and Brad Crabb. McLeod and Cross very good for us in the midfield. No winners up forward for me.

Eagles played an undermanned side we counted 10 league players not playing . Others counted 6 not playing .Thompson and Guff the two captains not playing no Wundke no Jarrad no Lewis no Boyd no new ruckman from Essendon just to name a few.
Once I worked out who wasnt playing I wasnt keen on being there .
Eagles league team was made up of seconds players and some who have played the odd league game !!
Whittlesea and Dunstan will be vying for the third tall spot up forward on yesterdays performance look out Ainger if you dont perform this year.
Mullins did show something in ruck i think the south ruck tried to intimmidate him in the first quarter didnt seem to work .
Rowntree seemed to dominate the centre until he got tired
Goldsworthy played of the halfback line and played well
"Bobbie" as he likes to be called could be the recruit the Eagles need down back
"Vonnie" as well down back held his own
Lachlan Mcgregor did things only he could do down on ground level

Interesting game plan style took the seconds side a quarter to get it going and the league side took awhile as well . Eagles didnt get sucked in by the flood having players stay back at around center and control the ball . Souths run didnt seem to bother the Eagles much i think it did after the Eagles kicked 6 straight !!
A trial game is a trial game not getting excited over a win but signs were good

I think there was one who wasnt on the list he came on in the last term number 17 . Number 39 was 23 before he went off with the blood rule Schwarz came back with new number and tapped up head :)

Eagles had 8 first choice players missing
Wundke, Lewis, Thompson ,Guiffreda, Thurlow, P. Raymond, Boyd and Jarrad.
So they would be happy with there first run vs Souths second.

Did you not play West?

yep in December and February they were unofficial trial games :)

EAG - 15.9 = 109

NOR - 5.3 = 33

Nick Hayes kicked 5 for the Eagles, Lewis 3 and Goldsworthy played all night in defence...

Persinos kicked 2 for the Redlegs, while I was impressed by youngsters Luke Partington and Zac Richards...

Norwood had at least a dozen first starters rested tonight but that being said, the Eagles were impressive...

Near full strength eagles side. Perhaps only 2-3 regulars out. Anyone know what is wrong with out ruckman recruited from essendon, Thurlow? I don't think he has played a trial yet. He could be our most important recruit so we need him on the park

Yeah - Thurlow very important for Eagles to have someone to match the size of Baulderstone. Nick Hayes looked lively up forward and put Wundke up there alongside him, help him further. Still dependent on ball delivery and tonight Lewis was very good.
