Probably the 2nd most unknown entity retaining a bit from the Magpies era. Also throw into the below mix that Marlon Motlop and Nathan Krakour are training with them. Please don't let this degenerate into another reserves discussion as there's plenty of topics for that.
Your thoughts?

if you didn't want it to be turned into another reserves discussion then why did you put power reserves in the title. Why not just call it Port Magpies 2014.

Just to avoid confusion as there's already a Port 2014 thread in the AFL Forum and some people not in the know are aware its different this year with all Power players dropped to their reserves side in the SANFL. Having "Port" and "Power Reserves" in the title seemed a fair compromise. Adelaide's reserves will be titled similarly.

Anyway, I think they might be a fringe finals side but similarly to the Crows reserves injuries will have twice the influence on their side as opposed to the other 8 league sides.

kickinit, any youngsters we should be keeping an eye out for, do you think they'll be too heavy in one area and light on in others because of the way the club is structured?

All about injuries, but given a similar number of injuries, should be considerably stronger than the Crows' seconds with at least 5 or so legit SANFL league-quality players in its SANFL squad, as opposed to just one for the Crows (Callinan). As with all AFL seconds sides (or at least all AFL seconds sides playing in a decent-quality comp), will fall away badly in August if the Pahhhhhr firsts aren't going to make the finals and the AFL side starts squirrelling players away for an early start to the 2015 pre-season. If Pahhhhr firsts do make the AFL finals, I reckon a 'par' result would be to make the 5. Would be surprised if they won a final, though.

Also: Crows are obviously committed to playing all of its listed players in the SANFL league comp, as there's no plan B. However Port have the flexibility of a SANFL reserves side, at least for the near future. Will the Port SANFL league team pick on form, or give golden tickets to all AFL-listed players? There will inevitably be at least one or two AFL-listed underperformers where Buddha would want to banish them to the SANFL reserves if allowed to; will be interesting to see whether he's allowed to.

Its a good thing Port have a SANFL ressies side aswell otherwise they would of had to cut Danny Butcher

Quick side with plenty of talent. The non afl players are far better than the crows players.

Flag favourite for mine.

Not sure how the forward half will go, but with that back half and midfield I expect them to get plenty of opportunities to score.

Not sure about flag favorites, I do think they are top 5 material though.

Out of our draftees- Karl Amon and Darcy Byrne-Jones look lively. Plenty of pace and Amon in particular is a great user of the footy.

Will follow Daniel Flynn with interest this season. Has got great athleticism and size, just needs that football nouse.

Robbie Young is a product out of our junior system- represented SA in the junior championships last year (pretty sure it was U18's)- has pace to burn and could make an impact in the senior side should the opportunity present itself.

A very young side, could sneak into the 5 if the power has a good run with injuries.

Actually looks a very good side. AFL side stays injury free the reserves could go a long way this year

Robbie played several league games last year and had an impact in those. I believe at least two AFL clubs spoke to him over the summer.

Correct Boon- not sure on how the selection requirements of AFL listed players will affect Young. As i said, if he gets senior opportunities, could make an impact and is one to watch.

Are they required to pick AFL listed players and rookies in league side before other players? Could they pick Harem at CHF in league side and play Harvey in SANFL reserves comp Rd 1?

Having re-read the statement made by the Port Adelaide Football Club when accepting the invitation to join the SANFL which read that all Port Adelaide AFL listed players who do not make their AFL team must play in their SANFL League side I'm somewhat surprised that Motlop and Co. have decided to return. The Port Power have forty listed players which means that if all are fit then only two positions remain available. Surely their must be 8 - 10 players on their list better prospects than these two or have the conditions for the Powers entry been changed?

Steve Summerton announced as the Captain of the Port Magpies / Power Reserves side for 2014...

Will continue the club tradition and stop wearing his number 33 jumper to don the number 1, instead...

Really? I'm sure we'll appreciate a link to this informative statement.

Steven Summerton has been announced as the magpies captain for season 2014.

A magnificent honour for a true Port Adelaide man- a great successor to Jimmy and the perfect fit to inspire a young group.

Aseri Raikiwasa, Henry Slattery and Anthony Biemans round out the leadership group.

On a day where Main North Renault has come on board as joint major partner of the Magpies.

Congratulations Summo.
