I think Wedgie's right. From memory, from reading an SANFL release I saw earlier this week, I found Alleway had actually lost few games for suspension (in the time frame of the current tribunal regime).

Glenelg forward Clint Alleway has accepted a three-match ban for striking South Adelaide’s Luke Durdin at Gliderol Stadium on Sunday. Alleway’s poor record – he has been suspended for five matches in the past three years – and 43 carry over points, contributed to his offer.

Conduct – Intentional
Impact – Medium
Contact – High

Level 4 Striking – 325 Points

Addition/Deductions
25% Loading for 5 matches of suspension in previous 3 years
25% Deduction Guilty Plea
43.1 Points carried over from previous offense

Total Points = 347.78

After accepting his three-match ban, Alleway has 47.78 Points carried over.

Was speaking to a former team-mate of Allers' during the week and we both agreed he would be on about 9 or 10 games in total, perhaps, once you add this recent 3 week holiday...

He'll be up to eight.

What about the years before that?

Dunno. But the question was whether he was approaching the games suspension threshold - I'm not sure if the years before that count towards those games.

Just out I interest, and nothing to do with Alleway, if a player comes across from another comp does his record come with him?

Yes. If they played AFL and were suspended the tally is halved for state leagues and below.

Is the slate wiped every 3 years or is that just when that rule was brought in?

Is the 16 games rule for every competition bar the AFL? Seems wrong to me that pros get to get away with twice as much as amateurs.

Also, are we going to bring the life ban thing up every time someone gets suspended for a few weeks? I never classed Alleway as an especially rough player. Counting how many weeks players have left before a life ban could get tedious. That is to say, I don't think that every player who gets suspended, even for a number of weeks, is a dirty player.

RB - AFL suspensions are a lot easier to come by than in other grades, that's why the reduction when they play lower grades. Even then, I reckon that's still a little tough on AFL players.

I think the perception is that Alleway is a dirty player. I'd like to think he is more a bit of a hothead. I think most of his suspensions have been for striking and not for dirty tackles.
When he was at North he certainly did wear his heart on his sleeve and played with a passion which probably lead to most of his suspensions. I doubt that has changed, playing for the Bays.

He always hurt us when he played against us and I know Norwood were disappointed when he chose North over Norwood when he arrived but ......
the gutless punch to Alex Georgiou behind the play when the player was looking away a few years ago made my respect for the man disappear. He got 3 or 4 games for that effort and was on the downward slide ever since.
I really don't see why the Bays took him on this year as they should be looking longer term than a guy of his age and record.
