Round 13 - Eagles v Norwood @ MThiem Hyundai Oval (Sat 12/7)

Postby Big Phil » Mon Jul 07, 2014 10:01 pm

This clash certainly looks to be the match of the round, with both bringing winning form into the clash...

The Eagles got the job done against the cellar-dweller Bays, while Norwood slugged out a win in the wet against Central last Friday night...

Really looking forward to getting to this clash...

I think Norwood are the best SANFL side in the competition ATM. Their depth is better than WWT who can clean up bottom five sides due to their best 6-8 players, but won't beat other top sides consistently because of their bottom 6-8 players each week. Norwood to squash the Eagles in a combined team effort that then blows out to be a seven goal win and sees Norwood take away the Eagles top 3 spot for the rest of the year.

Great to see Angus Rowntree back for a run in the reserves.

Still perplexed at Goldy's continued omission?!?

Should be a cracking game, both teams need the win to push for the double chance. My only issue for the Legs is the lack of pace (except Wilson) on the big oval.

Having no footy last weekend drove me insane, I can't wait for Saturday!

He didn't get named in the best in the reserves last weekend. Didn't look to be injured either at the end of hte game. We need him back in form and back in the coaches favour. He is too good a player to not be playing league.

I'd be staggered if hte eagles got up over this. Looking back now, the last time we played against norwood was the beginning of our downward spiral. Until that point, we were playing quick, direct and confident footy. In the last game against norwood they applied amazing pressure and shut us down Since that point, our players have been indecisive and weak footy.

Norwoods squad look really strong and I expect them to come up against us with the same intensity only this time they have form with them. With Baulderstone likely to absolutely demolish us in the ruck I hope Godden has a plan to win the ball after losing the hitouts.

I expect a tight first quarter then Norwood will kick away and gradually open the margin to about 6 goals by the final siren.

Reckon it will be tighter than most people are predicting. Usually have decent battles at Woody, think we may just edge them

Us Norwood fans never feel at ease with an upcoming fixture against the Eags. I blame Bruce Winter and Niel Balme!

It must be about a certain game late in 1993.

Don't be, he's been soooo average for years now with lewis not far behind him.
They only put in a shift when it suits them, that much is obvious unfortunately.

If he was protected by the umps as much as the Eagles he might not of gone missing in that second half.
How much longer does everyone have to put up with the Eagles getting an armchair ride week after week, blatant cheating.

H78 and J05, you are both on drugs. Goldsworthy is one of the Eagles' best. The umpires do not cheat. Play on.

Funny from my vantage point the umpiring was just bad for both teams !
First half Norwood got an armchair ride second half eagles got a better ride.
Norwoods forward line was well protected by an umpire in the first half .Any touching of the jumper was paid as holding . Which of course is the correct call . But when the ball goes to the Eagles forward line same happens and the call is play on !
Free in front of Norwoods goal for a goal or play on in front of the Eagles goal!
Funny how holding the ball was paid to Norwood after Ainger had handballed the ball away !
So as I said umpiring wasn't great !

I think the game changed after Grocke went off injured . And Newton stopped marking everything and kicking straight .And of course the likes of Powell , Shwarz , Appleton shut Norwood down in packs !

And did Bomber take a fantastic mark on the grandstand wing !

I thought the Eagles got a few generous ones, but don't reckon there was as many bad calls as most Norwood supporters thought.

The umpiring was completely irrelevant anyway, I'm pretty annoyed at the lack if character we showed whilst conversely our opponents was growing and ultimately brimming by the end.

Hard to believe after having a 4 goal head start that imho the scoreboard flattered us by the end.

I was starting to question the Eagles flag credentials in recent weeks, but yesterday might just have been the making of a strong run to the finish line for them - they would have re-discovered plenty of belief after their performance yesterday.
