Sturt 11-12 78 defeated Glenelg 10-4 64.
Sturt completely dominated the game from the opening bounce until the 20 minute mark of the second quarter. At that point in the game, Sturt held a 47 point lead, with Glenelg having only scored one point. Glenelg kicked the last 3 goals of the second quarter.
The third quarter saw Glenelg work very hard, take their opportunities and by three quarter time, Sturt's lead was reduced to 7 points. In the end, Sturt as expect just had that bit of extra polish, running out winners by 14 points.
Obviously Glenelg have a long way to go, but really happy with the effort today, a step in the right direction. Sturt take the points, but wouldn't be overly happy with their performance.
Crowd at Unley was 2916.

Can't expect to win when you turn up 40 mins late, makes it a tad more difficult to make the 5 from here.

Anyway, how's that mini league coach going? Didja find out why your club thought that was the way to go??
Funny how Stevens picks up the 5aa gig and Bays job both needing heavy doses of spin & dribble.
Rehn and A.Jarman had to be worth a try purely on record as both have made a GF as coaches. WTF is going on DIDJA?

My club is very much alive and yours in died in 1990.
Tomorrow my club will still be there and you'll still be a faarkwit.
Hybrids must have won this week.
Love Dedj

Geez, Dedja, being a bit harsh on the old VB Commodore there.
Yep, a small engine and heavy body didn't make it the goer they thought it would be, but will always be better than a Camira.

I wouldn't associate a VB Commodore with ol' Holden 78, much too sophisticated, I tend to associate Holden 78 with a TC Gemini, up on blocks at the back Holparts in Hindmarsh...

Wasnt at the game, but interested in hearing how Rory Taggert went in his first game for the double blues? Injury hampered him early in the season but will no doubt add something to the blues for pointy end of the season.

Wasn't at the game either but he kicked two goals and his first was very impressive. Looks to have more bulk about him than what I thought.

Saw the game on Saturday. Thought Glenelg had the better of the first ten minutes for no reward. Sturt made the most of their attacks at the other end and finished the quarter dominating. That was the status quo until about halfway through the second. Glenelg were ordinary and giving away plenty of sloppy frees, then they began showing a little purpose. One play down the grandstand wing worked the loose man well with a series of kicks only to fall down in the forward 50.Sturt then goaled from the turnover in quick time but the signs continued gather for the Bays. Whoever was centre half back for Glenelg became more conspicuous, stifling more than a few attacks with his iron grabs. Sturt began missing their targets more and before we knew it the Bays closed to within a goal. From then on it was a good hit out which Sturt won with a strong burst in the middle of the final quarter but the Bays gave us a bit of a scare. If they back it up with a good performance next game I'll be convinced that they turned the match rather than Sturt went napping.
Happy to escape with the points but not a convincing win.
