That is a footy nerd's paradise, Phil. Good on you. The programmers at the SANFL would be patting themselves on the back right now, with all 5 matches in the final round potentially having an impact on who finishes where (subject to what happens tomorrow).

It's a love Phil fest.

Here is a summary of the link.

Conclusions from todays results

- Port have double chance
- Sturt and Norwood have secured finals berths
- Eagles can’t finish top 3
- Adelaide, West & Glenelg cant play finals

Tomorrow

- A South win v West will lock in a finals berth for the Panthers, the others below could get to 10 wins next week but wont make up the pct and it will still give them a shot at the Double Chance if they can make up the pct difference over Sturt in their Rd 23 match.

- A West win over South locks in double chance for Sturt (2 wins up) and Norwood (far superior pct)

- A Port win v Norwood secures Minor Premiership for Magpies

- A Norwood win v Port secures double chance for Redlegs, a win by 75-80 points would give them top spot on percentage.

Port & West combination
- Port minor premiers, Sturt & Norwood to play in Qualfying Final.
- Four teams (South, Eagles, Central & North) all on 9 wins for 2 spots in Elimination Final.

Port & South combination
- Port minor premiers
- Norwood, Sturt & South guaranteed finals, battling for 2 spots in Qualifying Final
- Eagles, Central & North battling for 1 spot in Elimination Final

Norwood & West combination
- Port, Norwood & Sturt all top 3, minor premiership down to last round
- Four teams (South, Eagles, Central & North) all on 9 wins for 2 spots in Elimination Final.

Norwood & South combination
- Port & Norwood secured top 3, minor premiership down ,
- Sturt & South secured finals battling for 1 spot in qualifying final
- Eagles, Central & North battling for 1 spot in Elimination final

Club By Club

Port

- Top 3 berth secured

- Can secure Minor Premiership with win over Norwood

Norwood

- Finals berth secured

- Can secure Double Chance with win over Port

Sturt

- Finals berth secured

- Can secure Double Chance with West win over South OR Sturt win over South in Rd 23 OR Norwood losing last 2 games OR South winning last 2 games but not by enough to make up percentage gap.

- Can secure minor premiership with win over South and Port losing to Norwood AND Port losing to Glenelg AND Norwood losing to Adelaide. (This would give Sturt 12 wins, Port and Norwood 11 wins)

South

- Can secure finals berth with win over West

- Can only miss finals berth if West win over South AND Sturt win over South AND Eagles win over West AND Central win over North (This would give Eagles & Central win 10 wins, South 9 wins)

- Can secure double chance with win over Sturt AND either making up percentage gap over Sturt OR Norwood losing last 2 games

Eagles

- Can secure berth in Elimination Final with

- Win over West AND North win over Central

or

- Win over West AND West win over South AND Sturt win over South

or

- Win over West AND Central win over North AND Central does not make up percentage gap

- Would be eliminated by loss to West. (Would be on 9 wins, would be overtaken by Central v North winner)

Central

- Can secure berth in Elimination Final with

- win over North AND West win over Eagles

or

- win over North AND Eagles win over West AND Central makes up percentage gap to Eagles

or

- win over North AND West win over South AND Sturt win over South (Central 10 wins, South 9)

- Would be eliminated by loss to North (Central would be on 9 wins, North would overtake them with 9 wins but superior percentage)

North

- Can secure berth in Elimination Final with

- win over Central AND West win over Eagles (North, Eagles & Central would be on 9 wins, North superior percentage)

- Would be eliminated by loss to Central OR Eagles win over West

Adelaide, West & Glenelg cannot play finals.

This will be updated Sunday Night after the last games of Round 17.

Even though they're in deplorable form, hard to see the Eagles not getting 5th spot playing West at home.

Of the sides vying for 5th, North being the schitzoids they are could conceivably go deep into the finals again if they somehow managed to squeeze in.

Centrals are the form team. 5 wins on the bounce including Ports scalp, and have found a bit of consistency. I'd rate them the best chance against a North side that can be frustrating to say the least.
Eagles can buy a win so there could be an upset against West who have nothing to lose. It would depend on how WWT react to the pressure and how shot their confidence is.

Personally I don't see 5, 6 and 7 changing

Very interesting finals if it stays as is.
South v Eagles Elimination final could get a bit fiery. Would be worth the admission price just to see the Panther fans give it to the moneybag boys

Is it just me or is it a tad unfair that we play our game after all the others therefore knowing our destiny. Surely it would be fairer for all sides to play at the same time. Fairness doesnt seem to be in the SANFL charter though

Absolutely correct. Would be ropable if I were a South supporter. Presumably driven by broadcast time preferences for Ch 7 with the Crows having an early game Sat. Ideally, the SANFL would say, 'we're happy to accommodate the rest of the year, but in the final round of the year the integrity of the comp holds sway over outside interests'. Like that'd happen. Because SANFL 2014 is so good at protecting the integrity of the comp.

But even as a fallback, the Port v Glenelg game was always the one least likely to have an impact on the makeup of the 5, and should've been the broadcast game. Broadcasting South v West proves Ch 7 is not averse to showing dud games of little interest.

I am led to believe the reason the West v South game was covered today was that each side was assured 2 home games on TV this year and this was obviously the last chance the TV had to get the Bloods at City Mazda...

I, for one, have enjoyed the opportunity to view fence signs in equal distribution this season.

Hopefully they package together all the highlights from each of the fence signs to sell on DVD at the end of the season.

Best part of that is the signs on the outer wing are brought in by the broadcaster, covering the club sponsor anyway. Everything is coming up Milhouse this year.
