Opinions please.
I think all SANFL ovals should be the same size & dimensions, what do you think.
I raise this question due to the new game that every club seems to be adopting, no-one stays in position anymore, it looks stupid at Elizabeth Oval these days, when there isn't anyone forward of the centre circle most of the time!

The rules need to be changed, not the grounds.
Our great game is no longer.
It is an eye sore. Seeing 36 players at one end inside the 50 is not how footy should be played.
Too many ball ups and rubbish football.

So you suggest that all ovals should be reduced in size to the smallest ground that is played on?

Footy is unique in that there is no standard dimensions for the playing surface and its up to teams to adapt to longer, shorter, wider, narrower ovals to what they're used to playing on and i dont see any valid reason to change that.

what other sports have different size playing arenas.

I personally still think (even though it won't happen for an obvious reason), the bonus half point for scoring 100+ in a match should improve the spectacle of a match.

There a max and a min size but anywhere between is ok

Or why not just introduce a new rule that there must be at least 6 players each each 1/2 of the oval at any time. Go one step further and have at least two players inside 50 at any time
At least it would open games up a bit more.

Baseball, golf, lawn bowls, car racing, bicycle racing, rugby league, rugby union, Gaelic football, hurling, horse racing, trotts, greyhound racing, yachting, surfing, skate boarding, rock climbing, Orienteering, show jumping, white water rafting and paint ball are others that come quickly to mind. We're hardly the only sport.

Surely it starts with the coaching. I went to Elizabeth yesterday to watch our U18's and im actually surprised Centrals scored at all, I know they were trying to limit the damage but in the 3rd quarter they emptied out the forwardline and no player was forward of centre, they then played 3 and sometimes 4 loose players inside our defensive 50, what is that trying to teach kids?
Not the first time ive seen it this year either.
You see it in local footy all the time also, even at u15 level.

no not the smallest, too crowded. Maybe something the size of Richmond oval. Elizabeth is way too big now, Unley too small. What's wrong with having a generic oval size?

End the interchange, allow 4 subs. Coaches will dislike it, but the game would cope with this change.

Even though they don't play league games there anymore, I've always thought that Alberton had the perfect dimensions.
