SANFL has confirmed a blockbuster schedule of finals footy action, headlined by the 2021 SANFL Statewide Super League Grand Final, which will be played on Sunday, October 3 at 3pm.

Once again, all matches during the four-week Finals Series will be played at Adelaide Oval with crowds of 20,000 currently permitted by SA Health under the stadium’s COVID Management Plan.

For the first time in the League’s 143-year history, SANFL will also play a Friday night Preliminary Final on September 24 – the night before the AFL Grand Final, to be broadcast live on Channel 7.

With the teams now locked in after today’s conclusion of the minor rounds, the Finals Series will kick-off next week with a Sunday afternoon double header that will see North Adelaide play South Adelaide in the Elimination Final and the Eagles taking on Norwood in the Qualifying Final, with the winner booking their place in a Semi Final match-up against minor premier Glenelg.

SANFL General Manager Football Matt Duldig said it was great to see the SANFL Statewide Super League return to a full four-week Finals Series at Adelaide Oval.

“There’s a real buzz of excitement around this year’s Finals Series, with the traditional Sunday Grand Final returning to the October long weekend sure to add to the festive atmosphere,” he said.

“The historic Friday night Preliminary Final – on the eve of the AFL Grand Final – also will be a fantastic opportunity to showcase SANFL footy to the entire nation.

“We expect the prelim final in a prime-time broadcast timeslot on Channel 7 will attract huge interest, not only in South Australia but across the country, with no other football being played that night.

“While we know things can change quickly in the current environment, we are also pleased and privileged to be able to host crowds of at least 26,500 people at Adelaide Oval – hopefully even more as we progress through the Finals Series.”

Tickets for Week 1 of the Finals Series will be on sale via Ticketek from 11am on Monday, with all patrons required to pre-purchase their tickets online. All tickets must be scanned in at the gate via mobile phone, and there are no ticket sales at the gate. Tickets for subsequent Finals will go on sale each Monday prior to matches.

Tickets will be $18 for adults and $12 concession for weeks 1-3 of the Finals. Grand Final tickets will be $30 for adults and $22 concession for the Grand Final. Entry for Under 18s is FREE for the entire Finals Series. Ticketek fees will apply per transaction.

All 2021 SANFL Statewide Super League Finals matches will be televised live and free on Channel 7 and 7plus, live on radio on 1629 SEN SA and live and on-demand through the SANFL Digital Pass.

Night finals can suck a fat one.
Also why is SANFL capped at 20k when Port allowed 26k?
Not that the finals will get that mind you

No probs with a Friday night Prelim but if that's going to be the case, why not just play the granny on Saturday?

Doesn't give much recovery time for the winner of the Prelim ..

^ this. The main (only?) reason the granny was ever played on the Sunday was to give the prelim winner a full week's rest. With the prelim being played on a Friday then the granny can return to the Saturday.

And FWIW I think a night prelim final is a brilliant idea. Just so long as the granny is kept as an an afternoon affair.

Friday prelim + Saturday granny = 8 day gap
Sunday prelim + Sunday granny, as has been the case in recent years, = 7 day gap.

Fri night prelim + Sat granny leaves = about 16 hour gap mate ;)

As a matter of interest, here's the ladder of finals teams in matches against each other:

Code: Select all
.............P...W...D.....F......A......%
Glenelg......8...8...0....689....518....57.08
Eagles.......8...4...0....569....521....52.20
North........8...3...0....638....550....53.70
Norwood......8...3...0....448....604....42.59
South........8...2...0....500....651....43.44

Take out the losses to Glenelg and the Eagles' percentage improves to 55.96, North's to 58.53, South's to 44.59. Norwood's percentage drops to 40.67.

Read into this what you will. :-B

Will be interesting to see what kind of TV ratings the SANFL Prelim Final gets in the other states.

Are these set seats for the finals at Adel Oval?

Are SACA members able to access tickets?

Another smooth performance by the SANFL - you would think that for club members attending all home games that are eligible for free tickets, that they would have it ready for them to be able to access their tickets at the same time that they go on sale to the general public.

Like last year, It looks like you're meant to enter your member barcode, but it doesn't work yet because Ticketek probably haven't been provided the list of valid barcodes from the SANFL yet.

It would be a good sponsorship opportunity for Glenelg and whoever they play. Probably NA.

Last year I was sent a barcode from South Adelaide but not this year. I think it’s because there are a lot more tickets available so they just have a general admission sale. Not all sections were available to choose from so maybe you’ll be given tickets in the sections that aren’t available to the general public? Just my thoughts on what the situation could be.

The Eagles sent an email to members earlier this morning mentioning that they are still awaiting further information from the SANFL as to how to claim tickets. I assume South and all other clubs are in the same situation so you will probably still get one if you went to every home game.
