In all seriousness, WTF don't they make more sports dramas/series?

Especially since we're a nations of sports-nuts (wonder if our filmmakers realise that?)

IMO, a series about an Aussie Rules club on Channel 7 is a no-brainer.

Already got a huge in-bulit audience.

Providing they kept the soapie hacks away from it.

Doesn't really surprise because if they've axed Blue Heelers (one of the more popular over the years, whether you liked it or not), nothing's safe.

Haven't you guys learnt anything about television in Australia? When one piece of carp gets the ar5e, another one quickly emerges to take it's place. Free to air TV is a garbage dump. What's good on TV these days?

The Sopranos
The Simpsons (although repeats are getting very stale and Skully era Simpsons are not that great)
Sport (what nine lets you watch)
OZ
Playmakers
Australia's next top model (grrrrrrrr)

That's right, you need Fox to see most of it. Money well spent if you are a lazy bastard like me.

Cheers,

REB

Just one problem dingalinga - the vast majority of filmmakers in this country don't 'get' sport.

(There's also the fact that an Aussie Rules would be hideously expensive if any on-field action were to be shown. Most likely would have to focus on the off-field activities - changeroom, boardroom etc.)

The industry thinks footy has already been covered with 'The Club.'

Yet they never stop rehashing cop/medical/legal dramas.

Not many "arty" type people are into sport.
I can only remember one soapie based in country Aust. having a local footy side, that was Blue Healers years ago, and footy (and other sport for that matter) is a big part on country life in Australia.
They can't make basic story lines that are close to reallity, so it will probably never happen.
North Adelaide F C : Champions of Aust 1972 : Premiers 1900, 02, 05, 20, 30, 31, 49, 52, 60, 71, 72, 87, 91

Believe it or not, 'McLeod's Daughters' is supposedly set in SA.

And yet none of those big country lads have ever pulled on the boots.
