Nup, never again IMHO, many shows from the 70s and early 80s did it too, Blankety Blanks springs to mind.

I think the world is too politically correct these days unfortunately and I can't see it ever improving. :(

Kingswood Country?? Pfft.

Postby Rik E Boy » Fri Nov 10, 2006 2:05 pm

Kingswood Country was a one joke overrated bore. Paul Hogan shat on it from a great height. Having said that, Kingswood Country is a better laugh than the majority of Australian comedies but that to me says more about Australian Comedy writing than the quality of the show. I'd prefer to watch 'All together now' myself. I loved the way Jon English took the piss out of himself and Rebecca was a very tasty 'straight man' indeed.

Could argue that Kingswood Country didn't really push social boundaries. It was a sign of its time.

If it was made today, then I'd say it would be extremely risky and controversial for a network, which means it probably wouldn't get made in this country. For example, SBS won't make anything unless it portrays multi-culturalism in a positive light.

Always find it dangerous revisiting old favourites. Just because very few hold up over time, especially comedy. Come to think of it, only the very best do that.

And we've got an appalling track record when it comes to comedy. Mainly, I think, because they don't spend enough time developing projects but also because local producers are stuck in a timewarp of 'gag' writing. Stand-up comics are generally the one's who get their own sitcoms but they have no idea when it comes to narrative writing. Absolutely none. They generally go for the cheap gag every time.

Loved the Paul Hogan Show in its day but it is terribley dated, as is everything else made during the 'yobbo comedy' era in 1970s. Best left in a time capsule...
