Along with Fawlty Towers and Open All Hours, this sums up my comedy education in the late 70s-early 80s. Dave Allen, sitting in his chair, telling stories half cut. Dream gig.

Loved the Two Ronnies, although I must confess as a kid I hated Ronnie Corbett's' lengthy joke-monologue bit. I can remember their mini-serials, like 'The Worm that Turned' and the detective one with Piggy Malone (Barker) and Charley Farley (Corbett).

Corbett's performance in season 2 of 'Extras' was great as well, snorting cocaine in the dunnies at the BAFTAS and getting sprung.

Rest in Peace. Whilst the old guard of Brit comedy is sadly moving on, at least the torch has been passed onto a new generation and the flame continues to burn brightly.

Almost identical upbringings .. Nice post mate.

Its amazing how regularly in everyday life, something reminds me of a Dave Allen or 2 Ronnies sketch.

Dave Allen was great, Kenny Everett wasnt bad too, although his humour a bit different.

Its probably only when these guys pass away, that you can see how influential English sketch comedy was to those growing up in 70s & 80s.

Well put, sounds like my childhood as well. Blokes like that were comedy gold.

The best part of much of their comedy was there was no need for nudity or violence, pure comedy delivered to perfection.

Fortunately they lived in a time that allows us to look back on it with fond memories long into the future.

When Kenny passed on back in the nineties I went to the local video rental place and took out a few of his videos.

What I remembered as risque and hilarious as a kid, turned out to be fairly tame as an adult. Maybe the jokes just didn't age well.

Ditto Psuedo. My sister got a DVD in the early to mid 2000's of his best stuff "Kenny Ever-itt, Video Cass-ette". And no, it didn't age well. I laughed a couple of times but only due to me remembering how funny those lines were at the time, not because they were 'funny' now.
