Re: Good Movies
In celebration of the great man Sylvester Stallone announcing he's gonna do Rambo 5, Im rewatching the first 4. Watched First Blood one and two so far, classic films haha!
Also I watched 21 Jump Street yesterday for the first time, didn't mind it, had some good laughs.

The near universal scorn this movie is copping cracks me up.
Just makes me wanna see it more.

Transformers AOE
Cornball fun and pretty insane.
Definitely too long - by at least half-an-hour - but still.
Michael Bay is some kind of demented genius to pull off these blockbusters.
Largely clueless film snobs who subscribe to "The Auteur Theory" nonsense would never consider him an auteur.
But he ticks all the same boxes as all their favourite European directors...

I went in knowing exactly how long it was going to be, and still was over it by the 100 minute mark. Mostly because my arm was killing me from the surgery I had 2 months ago because of the chairs. I didnt even really pay attention to the last hour.

Yeah, I braced myself for the 165 minutes.
But could've waited for another sequel for all that China/Hong Kong stuff.
Two hours... tops!
Still reakon the wolf pack hate for this movie is misplaced.
Pretty easy target but...

Re: Good Movies
I can't remember if it was in the Sunday Mail or not but I read a scathing review of that new Transformers movie basically saying it was the worst blockbuster of all-time.
I'm not going to see it nor will I probably ever see any of those Transformers movies but I find that pretty hard to believe.
Speaking of worst blockbusters of all-time I bet Godzilla (1998) would give it a run for it's money and I just bought that sucker last night 'Mastered in 4K'. I don't know much about this 4K business but it has to be an improvement on the original version!

Ha! Pretty much every review I've read has been scathing.
Back in '96, I remember Time Magazine putting Independence Day on the cover posing the question:
"Is this the worst blockbuster ever made?"
Then Batman and Robin came out the next year.
But hell yeah, I've seen a-lot worse...

The CGI was amazing compared to the first one. In that one you couldn't see shit.

How I Live Now - was just looking to kill time so had no expectation, but really enjoyed this film. Suspenseful and the lead chick was very impressive in her role. Solid flick!

Re: Good Movies
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Spectacular first hour. Then hits a bit of a lull before finishing strong. 25 minutes longer than its predecessor and it feels it, too.
Might be the first time a CGI ape gets nominated for an Oscar. Andy Serkis gets all the glory as Caesar but Toby Kebbell's Koba steals the show. Really would like to see an ape only, no humans sequel.
Sequel set-up doesn't leave much guessing...
