Is he still with us? I presume from your post he isn't? From memory Ricky May who was a referee, passed away several years ago.

Nah he's long gone unfortunately. If he was still around he'd probably be hosting it again.

Fiona's still around though.

First episode was tonight, and it wasn't too bad. The games themselves are pretty good and quite enjoyable. Only thing that annoyed me was Victoria kept changing between green and red - that looked quite cheap.

The big gripe for me is only the eastern states (and McDonalds) are represented - so much for every state being represented. Also, they've got some old bloke off the street as a token ref - should have got celebrities like the original.

While the theme song got a rework for the intro, the theme song used in the background and the team introductions was the original.

All up, I enjoyed it, and will be watching it again next week,

Apparently it's filmed in Malaysia to keep insurance costs down?

Does anyone remember Almost Anything Goes? It was like a 70s precursor to It's a Knockout and through rose coloured glasses I seem to remember it fondly - more fondly than Knockout anyway.

Was looking forward to it last night. Lasted until the first ad break, then decided to watch 60 minutes instead, which was a repeat, but still more enjoyable.
If you don't like it, change it. If you don't want to change it, it can't be that bad!

Sounds like those that are bagging it only watched a glimpse of the show. Those that watched it to the end seem to have enjoyed it - it got better as the episode went on.

Nope, it was on to the end in my house and I didn't enjoy it.
Although some of the ribald commentary was amusing.

I'd personally rather a show similar to "The Main Event", and although I didn't see IAK last night, I'll probably watch an episode or 2 soon.

I watched (against my better judgement) and thought it was dreadful. and I watched till the end. The highlight for me was HG Nelson on the special comments, he's always made me laugh  Would personally rather see a show in the same vein as "Wipeout" - now an Aussie version of that would be awesome!

No, although that would be funny...Sundo could get up on a roll of carpet a la the McLeay carpet ads - "Nah, leave' im there!"

It was hosted by a vaguely American guy called Tim Evans (obviously not THAT Tim Evans) and I *think* Ron Barassi was involved too. It's one of those weird things - like a COOL Saturday morning kids' show called Jason of Star Command! - that nobody I've met seems to remember...I'm beginning to wonder if I didn't make it up :?

No, it rang a bell to me also - and we're both right:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_of_Star_Command

Tim Evans, IIRC, also did musical spots on Graham Kennedy's "Coast To Coast" in the late 80's to early 90's, and indeed, Ron Barassi was the referee on Almost Anything Goes.

I watched a bit of it tonight. Not really sure what to think of it, but it doesn't appear to have the type of atmosphere/feel that the 80's version had. Not sure if I can pinpoint exactly what it is, perhaps it looks a little basic for 2011 type entertainment.

I had a look at the older version on youtube, maybe the difference is the audience isn't seen/heard as much in the current show, compared to how it was in the one 25 years ago.
