Geoffrey Edelstein's wife is featuring in one too.

That should be about as exciting as the Lara Bingle one.

The shows that aren't talent searches like the Voice are more like badly acted fiction rather than reality.

True reality TV was Big Brother but even that to some extent was controlled by the producers in terms of what was shown and what reactions they tried to provoke.

The other shows are kind-of reality but kind-of not. I cringe most when they clearly have re-created or staged what is sold to us as "private" moments. In the Biggest Loser how convenient that the cameras (and associated lighting, mikes, etc) are all in place at the right time to catch that secret strategic meeting between a small group of the contestants.

When that happens I wonder if the re-creation is of an event that actually happened earlier or is just the producers trying to add that soap opera drama element to the show my making up plot-lines.

I heard an ex-contestant of the Biggest Loser saying how long the actual filing was in real life with setting up and re-takes. Yet it is presented to us as though the cameras are capturing "real" moments. Some of the time they are but a lot of the time it is staged and the contestants become B-grade actors doing what the director tells them.
In between signatures .....

Worse Reality show is the WAG Nation show on Foxtel.

Features Jarrad Waites wife, some NBL players wife Jude Boltons wife and Anthony Minochello from the NRL's wife.

Most forced converations ever!!!!!!!!!!!!

I laugh at how much these women think they really are part of the game and how important they are to their respective sports. NBL players wife going on how its hard at times to be famous.

FAMOUS LOL, i had never heard of her husband and he plays basketball for crying out loud. She needs to get a bit of reality.

My first memory of reality TV was The House From Hell on Ch10 and hosted by Amanda Keller.

Survivor is one I have watched a few series of religiously. Got into Gordon Ramsay at the start and also Amazing race. That's pretty much where it ends.

Nowadays I rarely switch from ABC and SBS.

Don't hold your breath waiting for reality TV to disappear.

What I'd like the Govt to do is legislate such that tv stations are required to spend "x amount" on local made drama and comedies (I believe they currently have to spend a set amount on Australian content in general).

That way they might be required to divert some of the funding they use to produce reality programs, into decent drama and comedy.

Don't watch any of them.
However, MasterChef has one redeeming quality, producing a recipe book with some really good food in it :tonqe:

Problem is they don't know how to produce decent drama and comedy.

Yeah they have battled in recent years to produce quality tv. There have been some exceptions over the years though, although admittedly a lot of the decent stuff has been made by the ABC.

I reckon though pre year 2000, there was a bit of comedy and drama worth watching on the commercial stations.

this show made me crook. absolutely terrible. the only thing i seen that actually made me have a tiny bit of respect for any of the women was Jarrad Waite's missus having a dig at the basketballers missus when she said she would make him quit the captaincy and his career up on the Gold Coast and move to Melbourne to be with her. Minochello's (sp?) was the most stuck up mole i've ever heard talk.

I've been watching a bit of "The Voice". I must have no idea about singing/music though because all the singers the judges are selecting tonight, are sounding awful.
