Louis Theroux - Live on stage

Anyone who has watched a Louis Theroux documentary ( or his Weird Weekends series ) knows that his almost innocent, puzzled, sometimes frankly idiotic line of questioning can be riveting to watch.

In some of the most precarious of situations Theroux asks the most blatant of questions, the most obvious, the ones nobody else would have the guts to ask, or indeed be too smart too!

Theroux is heading to Australia for a "Live on stage" tour, he is one stage with Julia Zemiro, who can be liked or disliked. Me, I'm neither here nor there with her, more there than here.

completely disagree that his questioning is idiotic, more forthright.

His skill is that he never seems to judge when he asks the question, so people are very open with him. Instead of saying "what did you do", he asks "what did they say you did" so he puts himself on the side of the person he is questioning.

Idiotic is the wrong word, granted, more that he could be in a mass murderers cell and they say "Oh yeah, I've killed men for no reason" and he'll say "Would I be someone you'd kill?"

I'm keen. A great interviewer and documenter of our crazy world.

$129 is money well spent IMHO. Keep in mind people are paying much, much more to gladly watch acts that are well past their prime churn out stuff you've definitely heard before or elsewhere (e.g. AC-DC, Black Sabbath, The Rolling Stones). Louis is at the peak of his powers and will discuss things from his unique perspective.

Like all Theroux productions this one had it's fair share of "ooh ahh, really?" moments, awkward pauses as Louis thinks quietly, some "Did he really say that?" moments and in all opened up the mind to more about scientology than I ever knew.

Left me thinking this won't be the only scientology based doco that he produces. Barely touched the tip of the iceberg.

Hard to give it more than 6.5/10 because it won't be for everybody and won't be the end of this story.
