Even that year when they finished 5th i still dont reckon you could ever call them particularly "hard" though, except for Judd.

We were building at the end of 2011, then we got the injuries to key people and suffered from there on. I remember saying to my mate that I was expecting a call up cos I could get a spot in a pocket we were that badly hit by injuries (2012). Then we had chances and kicked ourselves out of finals contention.

2013 should have an asterisk next to it as well.

I've had a look at the draw. if you go by performances so far, we should beat Bris this week. We might get over the Suns at home and then we play Bris up there. We might only get 4 wins!

Marbles, completely agree. Couldn't have said it any better myself.

casbult is the best pack mark in the league, when your coach barely gives you the time of day and chucks you in the ressies, casbult probably feels like he aint gonna get a a game for as long as malthouse in charge. the kids depressed

i cant believe the money travis cloke, and drew petrie would be on, theyd barely get 5 kicks between them. if they get a run, then casbult deserves a chance to shine

Same happened with Garlett. Ran around the magoos with no confidence and we trade him for a bag of cold pies. Player development at our club is horrendous.

firstly im a man like most coaches who has belief in his players, have you ever heard malthouse say anything good about any player?

Under a coach who'd wants nothing but the best for his players these boys would reach great heights...

# Judd
# Walker
# Henderson
# Gibbs
# Casbult
# Yarren
# Menzel
# Everitt
# Jamison
# Murphy - although is a shit captain

These boys would shine in any other team, for instance chuck the individual in the Hawthorn side

Under a regime, where the coach or coaches are drilling excellence these boys would flourish

at carlton, bad leaders, bad game structure, and all the players are half asleep, and not even $200,000 a year (average) is making them do their job

Casboult, Yarran, Everitt, Jamison would all struggle to get a game at Hawthorn, let alone flourish. If Shaun Burgoyne can go from an A grade midfielder to a bit part half back flanker (though a very good one) in the Hawks team then it doesnt bode well for the guys you mentioned.

Henderson is nowhere near an A Grader. He would need to kick somewhere near 50 goals a year to even be in the conversation, and his best season he has managed 28.

Aside from Judd who is obviously one of the games greats, but too old to be considered an A grader, Menzel, Walker, Gibbs, Murphy are probably the ones that have the potential to be considered A graders.

But aside from probably walker, all of those would be pretty far below their expectations. Menzel has an excuse because he is still young and has had a few injuries.

The real problem is a lack of leadership. Murphy and Gibbs are the leaders of that club now, and when carlton are 4 goals down they should grab the game by the scruff of the neck and will their teammates to come with them. But they dont. They roll over.

That was a problem before mick was there and will be a problem after he as left

I agree with Marbles sentiment. It's easy to fit into a good side and play well. I had that conversation just now with a colleague who said Judd is spent. Put him in a good side, and protect him and he could play again next year.

Henderson is our switch hitter who often finds himself playing defence because we won't recruit backman for some reason. Plus, playing forward in a horrible side (with poor delivery and no forward structure) I'm surprised he kicks as many as he does.

Bomber Thompson has gone on record saying he regretted going to Essendon and he should have quit football after leaving Geelong. Now we all know why that was the case and it wouldn't happen at Carlton but I think he would be a long odds to coach again anywhere. Why would he do it? He's seen what has happened to Pagan and Malthouse.

i guarantee the committee would be talking to him privately, whether he is keen or not, the board must be considering alternatives at this point in time

Way harsh
Simpson is a good solid AFL player, never been an A grader, never will be an A grader
Unfortunately he is judged as if he is an A grader because compared to his team mates he is (even though he is not) ;)

even though they play different different positions, he reminds me a little of someone like richard douglas. Could quite comfortably be the 6th best player or something in any team going around, but if he is in your top couple of players you are in strife

yes they both have best and fairest's for their respective clubs, but both arent really the chief playmakers at their clubs and never will be.
