So looking at the squad for NAB 3 it would suggest the round 1 side will shape up something like this:

Plenty of spots up for grabs for round 1 and over the first few rounds the pressure will be on to perform with a few handy types playing SANFL.

Betts Jenkins Milera
Douglas Walker Lynch
Seedsman Thompson Sloane
Smith Talia Laird
Brown Hartigan Lever

Jacobs B Crouch M Crouch
Int - Atkins Mackay Ellis-Yoleman Lyons

Emergencies – Gore, Grigg, Van Verlo, Cheney

Pushing for selection after gaining match fitness – Hampton, Menzel, Cameron, Knight

cheney was a solid performer come finals last year. being made to earn his spot again? can lever and cheney be in same side?

if campo was still coach would cheney be in side.

Note: yes its only a trial game

I agree, good honest performer thats for sure. Depending on match ups Cheney, Lever and Talia Could play as the key defenders. Hartigan probably has to take that resting ruckman/big forward type against teams with 3 genuine tall forwards. Will be interesting to see how we shape our defence this year, if Hartigan improves again it also releases Talia from that lockdown CHB role on the best forwards.

Unless they have two big monsters, I think Cheney will play ahead of Hartigan.

If we assume the gameplan will be somewhat modelled on west coast of last year, they had lots of mid sized players in a zone. This is also why I think they went with Doedee even though we seem to have lots of mid sized defenders.

reading between the lines they recruited doodee to become a pendlebury like, tall, smart midfielder in years to come.

Hey yeah fair point. As lever develops into the premier key back it may be Hartigan getting the boot and cheney becomes the third tall

Very strange to me why they didnt go for talia's brother despite the leaked talks

This current weakness in defense, is whats kepping them out of top 2 or 3 teams

Is a flag out of reach until lever or hartigan become rock solid bull dozers? :)

What drugs are you on? Crows are closer to their last flag than their next one. Hartigan is a hack, Lever has an unsound body, Talia doesn't hurt oppo teams and Mackay & Van Burntheballo wouldn't get a game anywhere else. Dreaming...

With progress of the youngsters and not a great deal of veterans to retire (sloan? Thompson) crows should be very primed for 2017 or 2018 flag. But has to be before betts passes his prime

Sloane is only 25. Thompson the only one of note that we will lose in the next 3 years

Talia is an all Australian, but if that's not good enough for you, then maybe you are the one that's dreaming.

For every Mackay there is a John butcher and a Kane Mitchell too.

For every Mackay there is a John butcher and a Kane Mitchell too.

And how many games do you think Mitchell and Butcher will get in the real season? Answer is zero. Talia a good stopper, but even he admits that he doesn't provide anywhere near enough rebound or creativity in defence. The Crows will be 10th at best IMO.

Mitchell and butcher have played 59 between them in the last 4 years, and 13 last year. hardly "zero"

Id like to know how many games port won last year with butcher in the side and oppose to when he wasnt in the side

Hes a flog of a kick but he ignites the forward line in some mysterious way. He'll play plenty more games

Fair to say that the eventually premier has about 4 or 5 all australians in that year? Crows only seem to hav 2 at best each season?
