So Thompson has walked off the ground for the last time as a Crows player, yet it hasn't been announced. Roos did the opposite and was upfront and honest with everybody, which is the more respectful way?

Probably the most respectful way would be to wait until it's announced before you go potting the Crows for something that may not have happened.

I think it's fairly clear that the club and Thommo have not agreed to a new deal, and probably because of the dealings with Lyon and CEY are more important for the future of the club rather than a player who would get a one year deal and then retire.

My point was there is nothing to announce yet. They are still to work it out for reasons I outlined.

Which way ripped the heart of the playing group and divided the supporter base?

I can't see who they're even remotely similar.

North's cock up will most likely never been bettered, or worsened, for that matter. Not even close.

ADELAIDE captain Taylor Walker says he wants veteran midfielder Scott Thompson alongside him in the trenches again next year as the club faces a tough call on his future.

Thompson, 33, remains out of contract despite declaring mid-season that he wants to play for a 17th season in 2017.

His 307th game in the six-goal semi-final loss to Sydney at the SCG might have been his last, with the Crows undecided whether to offer him a new deal which could jeopardise the futures of younger midfielders Jarryd Lyons and Cam Ellis-Yolmen.

Lyons, who has had a breakthrough 20-game season, is out of contract and is understood to have been offered a below-par deal to stay at Adelaide.

Big-bodied Ellis-Yolmen has a year to run on his contract but is considering offers from rival clubs after playing just two AFL games this season.

If Thompson, whose form in the second half of the year wasn’t great, stays then it could limit opportunities for the pair and result in one, if not both, seeking other opportunities.

Walker however wants the Crows to retain Thompson, who has been offered a coaching position at Melbourne working alongside new senior coach and his former Adelaide teammate Simon Goodwin.

“I would love to see him go around again (next year),’’ Walker said.

“Thommo’s had a great year and I’m sure his stuff will get sorted in the next few weeks.

“I’m sure he, his management and the club will decide that when it needs to be but I love playing with Thommo.

“It’s not only his on field stuff but off field stuff. He teaches me a lot as a leader, as a person and his ability to teach all the young midfielders.

“He’s (still) got a lot to give to the footy club.’’

Adelaide’s midfield is its biggest question mark heading into the off-season, having been brutally exposed by the star-studded Sydney on-ball brigade in the semi-final.

The Swans were all over the Crows early, dominating contested possessions and handballs which saw the home side at one stage lead the handball count 48-10.

Superstar Patrick Dangerfield’s departure to preliminary finalist Geelong finally hit Adelaide between the eyes and has left the club with some work to do to boost the line in the trade and draft period.

Best-afield Josh Kennedy and fellow All-Australians Dan Hannebery, Luke Parker and Kieren Jack and ball magnet Tom Mitchell were too good and strong for Thompson, Rory Sloane, Matt and Brad Crouch and Lyons, although Walker said his midfield shouldn’t be blamed for the loss.

“We’ve got some great midfielders, but they had some really great midfielders,” Walker said.

“It’s an area we can consistently get better at but you can’t finger point the midfield, we need to get better across the board.”

I think dutchy might just be trying to find another situation that could remotely compare to the debacle of Norths situation.

Brent Harvey was interviewed on the Footy Show last Thursday night and was adamant it was him who approached the club for an answer before the season had finished. He added that he would've been filthy if he was told after the Adelaide loss that he was no longer required.
