Talk on the national game

not to change subject on guernsey, but i reckon it might be wise of essendon to leave their last 2 player vacancies empty in case the players get off before seasons end, then watson & heppell could immediately comeback? or would you choose Hurley instead? :)

just the same way ryder & monfries could jump straight back in for finals

The WADA boss said overnight that the appeal would be a long process and not heard this year so players won't be back. There was talk of Watson and Stanton retiring at end of year and they were going to try for a injunction and play this year but I think they have wisely decided against it

I thought Stanton retired at the end of 2009.....

You'd think Essendon must have been given a deadline to finalise their playing squad. The top ups were meant to allow them to field a side, not to get themselves flexibility throughout the season. Not that any advantage like that will help their cause IMHO, but I think if a kid started the SANFL/VFL/WAFL season on fire and looked AFL ready Essendon shouldn't be able to just bring them in.

I believe that the suspended players are still on the lists aren't they, just suspended for the year? So once that suspension lifts they become available just like any other suspension. In that case, top up players would then be unable to play anymore. But let's hope that doesn't happen. Footy has to get past this and this suspension being served is the only way that happens.

I'd be very surprised. His back is deadset shot, no reports of him training plus a lucrative media career beckons.

How cruel would that be!! You build a team unit the game plans begins to excel, stokes kicks 5 goals, crowley shuts down sam mitchell in a massive win over the hawks, then monday morning theyre all sacked/moved on then a heap of blokes show up to training who haven't played since august 2015

Has had 3 medicals at the club, the last yesterday and he has trained with the group. Apparantly his back has healed substantially and he is keen to resume. I think the club will take a risk and pick him up

Was only because the game was at the TVS and he is not allowed there. Other games he can attend
