The only rule I believe needs to be re-addressed is the holding the ball decision. Some of the holding the ball decisions I've seen over the past few years have been absolutely shocking. Even with no prior and the tacklers are holding the ball to their opponents body. They seem to give holding the ball almost every time. It's very bad.

Why? You already get a point for doing nothing.

But teams use it as a ploy to rebound with a quick kick in and score quickly.
I'd be happy if we went back to waiting for the goal umps to wave the flags on a deliberate rushed point

If they are going to enforce this more strictly, then the punishment must fit the crime.
I like your idea Jim. Another solution could be a bounce down on the edge of the square or 15 metres out from goal. If it is a free-kick it will end up a farce, after some of the ridiculous decisions made this year for deliberate out of bounds and the egos of some umpires

Yeah the free kicks can be ridiculous. I don't mind the bounce at the top of the square, but still award the point.

But leaving the rule alone is desirable too.

Yeah, point would count, and agree not doing anything is just as desirable but can't see that happening
