What do they get for their $20?

Considering at the time the article was written, at least 7 clubs were doing it- we are no orphan.

If its being demanded of the club by its members, explain how we are "praying on the stupid"?

Also the only clubs at the moment not to have a pet membership are Collingwood, Geelong, Hawthorn, Gold Coast and West Coast.

Stupid people have enough problems without football clubs pushing religion on them

I know Essendon started one a few years ago, had about 930 pet members last year, cant remember the exact figures but for memory made about $25k profit for the club.
Had just under 5500 non access members which made the club about $210k, this is money for jam stuff. Cant believe people pay $50-100 for the digital membership.
Although these "memberships" as I call them count the AFL goes over the membership tallies at seasons end and weeds most of them out so you are left with a more accurate membership tally

But that is exactly the point, Jim. Easy money in the coffers.

If the public want to pump money into the club via pet memberships, baby memberships, premiership funds (where people donate "x" per win), then who is to say no?

Shows another example of the clubs marketing department listening to its members, no matter how stupid the suggestion may be to the average Joe.

I like how you mention the baby membership [emoji6]

Id never heard of it, but if all the clubs are doing it, it must be necessary.

Still, in my mind, the pet ones a total waste of money.

Im a cheap **** though.

My favourite bit is "due to popular demand".
Really? People actually contacted them and said "I'd like my budgie/ferret/poodle to be a member as they don't feel part of the game"?

It's not much more than a donation to the club, and if it brings in money, why not offer it to people?

FFS....how can a (any ) club win?

If someone wants to hand over $20 for Fido to have a badge on his collar, who really gives a flying?

The BBQ tools I've had to use in the holiday home we're staying which have faarking Power logos on the handles, if idiots want to buy this crap and the club makes some coin, win-win.

Just like the Power branded falsies someone left in the top drawer ...

Settle Boon, for all I care clubs could sell tree memberships so your flora could support your chosen club.
"Popular demand" I just found amusing.

I'll be off to Etihad in late July to watch us play Essendon with a few mates.

I can't wait!

Chad Wingard has had a minor clean up in his knee, will miss 4 weeks of training.

Port Adelaide forward Chad Wingard has undergone minor knee surgery that will see him miss training for at least four weeks.

21-year-old Wingard had the “clean-up” to the right knee on Tuesday after he experienced soreness after training last week.

Head of high performance Darren Burgess said given the season starts later this year, the decision was made to have surgery now and allow the knee to recuperate.

“With the season still nine to 10 weeks away, we decided the right course of action was to get the surgery done now rather than waiting to see if rest would allow him to recover,” Burgess said.

“The expectation is that Chad will be back on the track in four to six weeks.”

That sucks for Chad. He needs a big season this year after being a bit down last year.

Maybe he could have had some surgery on his face too to make it a little less punchable? :)

Was also reported yesterday that Hamish Hartlett has suffered a hamstring strain and will miss training for 3-4 weeks.

I've got no problems with this. February is the time to have Trengove, Wingard and Hartlett off the track.

2014 Averages

16.2 disposals
3.9 marks
3.1 tackles
43 goals in 26 games

I'll take that as a "bit down", thanks.

As for punching him, can you get up that high?
