Sicily is similar to Gunston and Bruest so it is believed the Hawks are open t trading him. The Gold Coast are keen on him as well, so he could make up part of a deal to get O'Meara to the Hawks.

I would be disappointed if they moved him on.

SEN are reporting that O'Meara has asked for a trade to Hawthorn.

If they have put 4mil over 5 years on the table its hardly a surprise really.

No need the Swans are only offering Mitchell 350k, pretty clear they dont want him or Buddy and Tippet are taking all the money. Our players take pay cuts, yours, well they just take take take.
Getting your money's worth out of those 2 when the heat is on :D

Well he does have somewhat of a point. Buddy and Tippett would take up a fair chunk of cap space, probably the combined wage of 7 or 8 Hawks players. Sounds like the Hawks veterans have taken very big cuts to keep the team together and allow them to chase players

Still a surprise that they have that much cap space without someone being squeezed out at some point. A guy like Frawley was offered a fair bit to cross over wasn't he?

One thing though we can be sure of is the AFL won't like it. You're not supposed to keep recruiting your way to flags, you're supposed to drop down, rebuild and develop and then go back up.

Therein lies the problem with free agency and the trading system whereby players can choose where they go

Don't think he qualifies as a free agent. I do get the gist of what you are saying though.

44 games in 4 years means he's miles off being a free agent, but seemingly players can nominate where they want to go at any stage.

Time, IMO, for players to make statements like in the NRL. "I'm here now, I'm there next year". Play to the line and we're all good. Are we, as footy people, ready for that?

No but he still gets to nominate his preferred destination and it basically limits the ability of GC to sell him to the highest bidder.

Maybe the rule should be you can nominate a state you would like to go to and then its highest bidder from there?

This goes beyond player recruitment though Graham. Before clubs drop and build they need the right people in the right jobs through the club. All Sydney and Hawthorn are doing is reaping the rewards of work done 10-15 years ago. Collingwood did it in the late 90's, Geelong did it too. I'd like to think Adelaide are on their way to doing it too but time will tell. Adelaide could have been far more successful in recent years but we had some clowns in higher roles at the club, got what we deserved by losing some bloody good talent. No good dropping down the ladder and recruiting when you make poor choices from the top. Ask Richmond, Carlton, Essendon, Melbourne, Adelaide, Port, Brisbane ect over the past 5-10 years at certain stages.

And that's why the PSD hasn't been scrapped. Gold Coast still saying they want a top 10 pick plus quality player or they will walk him. Just because he nominates a club doesn't mean he will get there. Hawks will have to cough up something half decent to get him. Can bet your bottom dollar the AFL won't like their love child being raided like this

Excellent Post. Taking some ownership of past mistakes is the first step.

Been a long time since a club really played hard ball and got nothing for something, Port did it with Nick Stevens years ago, wouldn't play with Collingwood and he ended up at Carlton.

Clubs invest so heavily in players, especially high draft picks who have been in the physio's room for 3 years that they don't want to get no return their investment.

Tide has turned the players way far too far IMO.
