The game has quickened up considerably and blokes are a lot bigger than they used to be also. People who say the players today are soft have no idea. 90% of footballers 20 years ago would get chewed up and spat out in today’s game.
Quickened up but skills have gone backwards, the guys 20-30 years ago were natural footballers which made great viewing, less teams meant better quality.
Natural footballers, with great ability yes.... No defending though! I agree with the viewing and they were great games to watch. Those teams now would get destroyed by the systems used now. Add to that most blokes now have on average an extra 2-3 inches in height and run like the wind for the best part of 2 hours. Yes, you put the blokes 20 years ago on the same plans and you’ll get different results. You can’t give them that extra size though and in the contest they’d get absolutely monstered.
