Thats such a dual edged sword though .. How are the lower pulling clubs supposed to improve their numbers if they're shuffled away from primetime spots

I'd say that in 2016 it should be Eagles v.Hawthorn. I can't really understand why it should be awarded to Pies Bombers year after year.
Did a disproportionate amount of Anzacs come from those two clubs or something along those lines? If there's a good explanation for it I'll take those sentiments back, but as it is it doesn't make much sense.

I like the tradition of it being Collingwood and Essendon and hope it stays that way. Personally I think the GF replay should be in round 1

With 9 games per week, all live on the big screen at home if you have FOX, Friday Night Live FTA every week, the cost of living etc, punters don't just simply go to the footy because it's a Friday Night. Not any more, the novelty, the drawcard isn't what it used to be.

Now, while the Kangas have been top 4 two years in a row they still pull rubbish crowds, they just nudge 40,000 members and they are not a draw card. So put them on FNF, but expect an empty Etihad / MCG when you do.

Because they were the only two clubs who wanted ANZAC day initially, every other club was opposed to it. Both clubs have a long term agreement on it now

I don't think that's true Jim.
The AFL seriously lacked any ideas about what to do with the day. Then Kevin Sheedy had an idea to honour the
the servicemen and women with a well promoted game. Bruce Ruxton the president of Collingwood was chairman of the RSL and Sheedy asked him to play the game, and he thought it was a wonderful idea to have Collingwood center stage on Anzac Day. I wonder what his decision would have been had Sheedy approached Carlton or Richmond with the idea? Both clubs have drawn massive Anzac day crowds previously. Anyway, it was that and the Collingwood supporter base got them in.
Credit to Sheedy for thinking up the concept and of course he'll want to favour his own club so the Bombers were right to roll the dice on it. The AFL were led by the Bombers though when they should have been making policy for the competition as a whole.

Ruxton president of Collingwood?

 Oops! Sorry, it was that Macallister bloke or something wasn't it. I thought they were similar back in the day, now they've merged into the one bloke in my memory.
Bruce was a big Collingwood fan in any case, but perhaps had a more balanced view of footy than Macallister so I should be more careful. Memory is a tricky gadget sometimes.

You might want to show some signs of improvement if you are any chance of one of those two nominating Carlton as their club of choice.

Definitely! Hopefully Daisy will trail off into the sunset and provide us with some salary cap relief!

Well the Roos were FNF trailblazers they have been screwed by the AFL over the years.

It would be awesome if they had two fnf games, one blockbuster game and another "smaller" game shown on fox

Won't happen though as ch7 are the main rights holders and want to protect their investment, which is fair enough.

They could have one game in Melbourne and then a game in Perth starting immediately afterwards. Traditional start times might need to be a bit flexible by around 20 minutes, but it could work.
