All this talk about ancient premiership cups... They should ask Malthouse what year to start, cos he would have been around at the first bounce in the 1870's!

Seriously, a top-ten coach of all time, IMO, but in 2014 he is irrelevant.

Agreed. Stevens should give Mick a bit of his own back, ask him a question then get up and walk away.

3/4 of the media are scum, good on Mick for getting into them. Wish more coaches would get stuck into them

Fair cop.

The media are only driven by the public's desire to know every gory detail and ask every question under the sun, be it stupid or not. If people didn't buy papers, subscribe to Fox Footy, buy Inside Footy etc etc there would be no media, but it's us, the footy fan, that drives the media.

Mick's an arsehole. He may or may not be one of the greatest coaches ( I rate him highly as a coach ) but as a bloke and some one to talk to I'd rather spend time discussing world affairs with Taylor Walker than talk to Mick.

Or are they scum because they keep asking what you blokes did and you keep saying we don't know?

Nothing to do with us. A fair proportion are just muckrakers who sensationalise crap to make them seem important. Barrett and Wilson are two of the worst. Friday night was a perfect example, not sure of him name but a person from North Melb was on discussing the approaching game which was only 1/2 hour away and most of the commentators were asking sensible questions and getting sensible answers next minute Caro-whine Wilson starts drilling him about Majak Daw and his court proceedings. I may be the odd one out but I dont want to hear that crap and thankfully the bloke whos name escapes me put her back in her place.

What a load of crap.

Maybe 3/4 is harsh but a fair % of the AFL media are shockers and get treated with the respect they deserve. Seems like a deliberate ploy by some in the media to wind certain coaches/players up
Sir Alex Ferguson had the right idea a couple of years ago when he refused to speak to certain media and banned certain journalists from doing player interviews for certain papers after they continually made up stories about him and the club.
Rather than Mick get grumpy perhaps he should just sit there and refuse to answer any questions so he doesnt offend anyone

So because there are 'identities' who have their agendas, 3/4 are crap?
Do you reckon the majority of journos in those press conferences after a game are the 'identities' driving agendas?
I'm pretty certain, for example, Sam Lienert isn't scum, or a shit bloke.

Even if they are right idiots it is mick's job to be the public face of the club after a loss, and for him to act like he does is embarrassing for both him and the club.

Don't forget it is their job to ask tough questions. If they spent all their time mollycoddling mick jim and others would be the first to say why weren't the tough questions asked

Fair point as I said 3/4 is probably tough but I could count on 1 hand the ammount of mainstream media I admire, obviously there are ones lower down the pecking order who do a good job aswell as most of the local ones

Differance between tough questions and stupid irrelevant ones Benny. How hard is it for some to do a little bit of research or atleast have some questions written down?

Wilson is an interesting one.

Many people despise her, it seems you are one of them, but people in high places decide to pay her (quite handsomely I'd imagine) to ask those questions and do a job. A job she's been doing for years. Journalism isn't a hobby, it's a profession and many of them act in that manner, as professionals.

Mick needs to pull his head in and worry more about coaching his side than biting the head off anyone who dares question him or his actions.

In some respects in a press conference they are work colleagues. They are both working to get the relevant information out there. If he treated any of his colleagues like that he would be fired
