When the opportunity presents itself to acquire 2 high quality KPP's in Ryder and Dixon, you do so without blinking an eyelid. No Port supporter in their right mind should object to the club doing these trades.
We had 2 lean years in 2011 and 2012 where we netted top end talent in Wingard and Wines, and last year we strategically traded to have 4 picks inside the first 2 rounds.
This year we have made a specific play for RFA's to fill some gaps in our list, and will hold a first round pick at next years draft.
I don't have too many criticisms over what our list management team has done this decade.
My concerns are not the young talent being injected into the side, it's their development. As a club, I feel as though our players stagnate a bit.
Will only be able to make a sounds call on all this in 3-5 years time IMO.
But what does the benefit of hindsight have to do with making in the moment decisions concerning the trading/drafting of picks and players?
As I said, at the time, these trades should be done without hesitation. Especially Ryder given where we finished in 2014.
