Think more a sign of the times in the early days - cant imagine there would've been many aboriginal footballers running around at league level through most of the 1900's.

Also Port Adelaide would've had plenty still come through the junior ranks, but not go on to senior level, or leave and head interstate.

Wonder how many talented aboriginal players would've had the drive and commitment back in the day also - support networks wouldn't be like they are now.

There'd be two factors : ( I'm thinking 1920-1980 or so )

There wouldn't have been a large number of indigenous people living in the metropolitan area through this period, reducing the likelihood of representing a team at league level and in doing so having to overcome the level of racism they would have encountered at the time. #itendswithme

In regional recruiting zones ( I'm thinking Port on the West Coast ) sadly, the nations first people wouldn't have been included in many of the activities in the area as evidenced by the famous Mallee Park FC, only formed in 1981.

yeah agree, and a huge move when Port's zone was on the Eyre Peninsula.

When did Aaron and Alwyn Davey play for Port?

Was this the year Aaron was drafted?

I remember Alwyn playing at South the year he was drafted.

Aaron played in 2003 at Port Adelaide in the SANFL, he played 11 games.

Alwyn played at Port in either 2003 or 2004 before going to South and onto Essendon.

The boys are first cousins of Gavin Wanganeen.

Interestingly Alwyn played exactly 100 games for Essendon and has twins who are quite decent footballers and should be in next years draft for memory

What's the most you can recall in one team at one time? What's the most you can recall on a list at one time?

Would think at best you'd have 7 or 8 in a season on a list over the journey.

62 over 150 years equates to around 2 new players each year.

yeah fair call, when you think of recent times you think of the nigh number of indigenous players they have had and their programs so you automatically think 62 is low, but then think back to the 80/90's and can't remember of the top of my head them having many back then, apart from Wanganeen.
off the top of my heap from the 80’s and 90’s
O’Loughlin
McLeod
Wanganeen
Bond brothers
Eugene Warrior
Fabian Francis
Burgoyne’s
Cockatoo-Collins
Think Michael O’Brien and Brenton Owens were around the 80’s aswell??

Did not know that

Just as a side note, I dated Brenton's niece for a couple of years in the mid 90's... she was beautiful apart from being a massive Maggies fan  ...

Had a chat with a mate last night about the development of some of Port's 50-60 gamers, Powell-Pepper, Amon and Houston and how quickly we've got 30 games into Marshall, Rozee, Butters and Duursma. Got me thinking about our current best 22.

Gray (Woodcock) Dixon (Georgiades) Marshall
Rozee Ladhams Butters
Amon Wines Duursma
Hartlett (Garner) Clurey DBJ
Burton Jonas McKenzie (Lienert)

Lycett Boak Houston

SPP Farrell Rockliff Woodcock/Georgiades/Mayes

The highlighted in this side are over 28

In italics next to them are the players who I can see as replacements for them in the next few years, Dixon > Georgiades for example.

I don't have a immediate replacement for Boak, perhaps Houston, or Rockliff, perhaps Wines, but they're already in the side. Jonas is the one who I think we'll need to replace ASAP, I'd imagine a key defender is high on our list of priorities in the upcoming trade/draft period.

The underlined are all under 25. I think 11 +/- of our current best line up are under 25 and 5 more have tasted the top level.
