Excuse me for being so 2000's and I really have zero interest in drafts but how does Adelaide have pick 1 but the Bulldogs end up with it despite not getting their first selection until pick 29?

Did someone have their fingers crossed behind their back or something?

Ugle-Hagan was a dogs academy player - means they get first dibs bit like father/son.

When another side goes to draft an academy player, their academy club (in this case Bulldogs), can choose to match the offer by trading in their draft points..
