He tried to do the same thing to Greg Phillips a year earlier in the 3rd quarter of the 90 Prelim. Came from behind, huge wind up and roundhouse to the side of his face. Phillips didnt budge though.

Are you sure you are not mixing him up with Klomp. I have just forced myself to watch the tape of the third quarter of that match and it certainly doesn't appear on the replay.

Craig Kelly.

Apart from Neil Kerley setting the scene for the Norwood and Central all in brawl during the warm up at the Southern end of the Parade in 1988, IIRC Gilbert McAdam ran past Ned and he gave the elbow to Gilbert who managed to almost completely get out of the way then Derek Kickett and Peter Bubner rightfully jumped on Ned, then it was on, one of the most intense afternoons spent at the football, so much happened!

Think Tommy Warhurst started it mate by umm, spoiling (term used loosely) one of the Dogs players during the pre-game warmup ... Made for one of the best atmosphere's at a game of footy I've ever experienced.

Just as an aside, I watched some old 80's SANFL clips on youtube last night, and geez McAdam was an exquisite footballer .. I loathed him as a kid (along with most opposition players), but his skills and movement were just exceptional.

I agree CP, he played against us at Richmond once and it still sticks in my mind as one of the best individual performances I've ever seen. One of the most talented players from the SANFL, yet never quite transferred it to the VFL/AFL.

Gilbert McAdam was a fabulous footballer, and to think, as reported, not sure if correct, he rocked up at Elizabeth and asked if he could train with them and possibly get a game 8) 18 months later he's a Magarey Medallist.

I remember the photo in the paper of T-Shirt spoiling Richard Lounder, but definitely saw Ned attempt to king hit Gilbert, who had to leave the ground for stitches and missed the first ten minutes of the game!

That afternoon was a niggling one, all over the place, on and off the ground.

There was a definite direction from the coach to warm up at the Southern end, where Norwood have warmed up for as long as I can remember, on ya Knuckles!

3rd Quarter, 21 minutes in just after a Hodges goal with the score 148-44. They show a slow motion replay of it as well.

Did you play Indoor Cricket against him at Stepney that night? Absolute dog of a bloke. Lost the game and paid out his own team mates ranting and raving as he went up to the bar.

I hears ya ... I umpired the prick many, many years ago.

Also, amazing how he used to play indoor cricket finals when he was supposedly out injured for the Cocks ...

Going a bit off topic, but similarly I played against a hobbling Troy Bond (while he was with the Crows) down at the Woodville indoor center.
Joining him were brother Shane and Eugene Warrior making it pretty talented side... I got belted in one over

I do recall McAdam missing the start of the game while he was off getting stitched up ... Also recall the Dogs kicking for goal that day was extraordinarily accurate.

Ahh, the golden days of footy
